GIANT tig welders.. are they any good?

Ok, i have been using a mig for years... however i want to buy a tig to weld up some bits for a rally car! a catch tank, some fancy bits etc.

I have found this on offer on ebay and was wondering if it will be ok for the job?

A proper TIG machine from the top manufacturers is over a grand, so make your own mind up if they're any good or not.
At that price you can afford to buy one & bin it if it goes wrong, but I reckon that's just what you'll end up doing

The Giant TIGs have been discussed before. Users bough them, they failed within minutes and the seller does not support them other than saying send it back to China for support.

You need to check the sellers warantee support. Most do no repairs/support, just box movers.

These are a good "budget" TIG:-




Budget being in inverted commas as they are 3 times the price of the eBay tat, but still less than half the price of the top dollar Pro machines...fully supported with outstanding technical support aswell

Made in PRC yes... which I think means Poland, Romania & Chez republic
I am selling em Mike, much to my dismay, but forced to do to compete in the market. The difference is these are supplied through a major player, who took almost 2 years to evaluate the manufacturers over there & get their design right, + have just about the best service facilities in the UK (the most important part).
Oh, and those Kemppi Miniarcs...have a guess where they are made

Have to be honest they do look well made for Chinese machines....... priced well too

Atleast he (you) have been upfront about it.........I mentioned on the other site, at my frustration/annoyance why other big brands arn't honest when doing demonstrations/sales pitch's as to where some of there kit is really made (China/Eastern block etc)......instead of trying to blag that its made in the same country of origin as the companys head office etc

I am sure not all of it is bad stuff either as they have reputations on the line, but I dont see why its something they tend to keep under the carpet.

I bought a scratch start set for site work. thought if it gets stolen cheap to replace, it arrived damaged they sent out another damaged one for me to take the part out of and replace.Would have been better used as a cheep tanning unit or strobe for a disco, was sent back after a phone call did not give refund.Luckily was paid for by credit card the card company then took the money back out of their account. Which I did not know they could do.

I live in ex-"East Europe" country. We were hungry of western high-tech products of any kinds and almost sick of zero quality coming from other east europe countries, Turkey, China...

Now we could see that even you in the West are buying this low cost/low quality products.

Is the crisis soo huge in your country? Or there are no more knowledgable people to explain the difference between good and bad products? Or companies from West Europe stopped their production and relocate it in PRC. Or Western companies only assemble parts coming from PRC and weave with flags with their brands...

Hi ZST.......

I think the main thing to remember is that a lot of users on this forum are strictly DIY/Hobby welders and maybe only use there machines few times per month. It is not really the case (yet???) that Industrial users in the UK are buying the sort of machines you see on Ebay.

I also think that in the long term, people will grow tired of 2nd rate quality and start to appreciate the added value of quality, properly engineered products...........here's wishing anyway
