You dear sir are not wrong with your wants, just living in the wrong place. 25 ft square garage isnt unreasonable, the permitted development rules are quite clear, if your garden is big enough, why not. Or move out a few miles, call it a cattle shed on the plans and planners pass it no issue.

I'd kill for a space something like 20 x 40 metres...so I could have a small mezzanine to doodle ideas, work out any calculations, paint booth, 4 post and a 2 post lift, blast booth.
3 phase - Lathe, mill, high torque pillar drill, plasma, mig, tig, a couple of high output compressors, oh and a decent stereo and net...heaven
Heck I'd have the bottom 2/3 of the garden garage'd over with the wife's consent...only problem is the council would object...kill joys...I mean...whats wrong with an 8 metre wide by 8 metre long garage?
Go underground ? The celebs are doing it with their London homes so why not the rest of use to create big workshops ?

Just a nice garage will do me....warm......electric ect.... and not have the hassle of an extension lead to run lights...until I get a main in....the worst thing about it is I turn extension lead off.....walk up garden n to put lead away....walk back in the dark as the outside light needs replacing. ......tread in dog sh@t......not known I have done this until I notice foots prints up the stairs because I was busting for a pi@@ !!!!! Then get my ass chewed off by the old woman !!!!!!!

I just googled that garage, its in Tours it seems where I have to go every few months for a checkup. I might pop in to it next appointment.

This, but with a mezannine off in bay3 above a enclosed sealed space to put my dyno in, a concrete floor, four post lift in the leftmost bay, a pit in the middle bay to work on really heavy stuff and a leanto on the side to put the camper van in so it doesnt occupy valuable workshop floorspace.
It WILL happen this year. If I have to hand mix each and every load of concrete for the floor...

Cobblers, been there done that. Hire a large mixer or get the readymix trucks in, well worth it.

A major plus of having a large work space is larger machinery is a lot cheaper than small machinery. The amount of large lathes, mills, shapers, radial arm drills, press brakes etc that i have passed by, that were really cheap is unreal. Near me last week, a large mill and large elliott shaper, less than 1k euros for the pair ! If i had a big old barn of a place i would have snapped them up.

This is just for car workshop use Ronan, there's already another building dedicated to a real workshop where things like that can live. Although I'm giving serious consideration to putting a bit of bay 3 aside in case a large vmc wanders into my life unexpectedly.
I have no intention of hand mixing if I can help it, but in the past few years when the subject comes up, me and the wife have always ended up at loggerheads when the price of the concrete can be pointed to as a single sum as its a few grand for a space that big, as a reason to delay purchasing it because in her eyes I seem to be getting along working on things on a dirt floor getting rained on, and she'd rather keep that money in the bank. If it comes to that this year, I'll drive the quarry with a trailer 20 times, costing more in materials and diesel. But there won't be a single figure to block because "we dont have that money right now".
Hand mixing would also let me split it into segments and work the results better instead of trying to float it all in one go, with it being too late at the start by the time I get the float to the end. Plus every time Ive had to get people to help me level out a wagon load, most of them were no shows on the day, feeble excuses (I didnt come as Ive got no wellies, dog had a snotty nose etc) and you cant ring a wagon company up with the load on the road and have it cancelled & the last time I laid a floor here I ended up doing it all myself, started at 10am, and finished driving the powerfloat round at 6am the next day.
