Nope, not got one and can't say I need one or want one. Both my adult children have two each, one work related, one social. Horses for courses, I suppose, I can see the advantages.

I don't think mines what can be called a smart phone, it's a Samsung Tocca that I have had for years.

Apparently it can connect to the internet but I have never bothered trying, it's a touch screen phone but a very easy one to use for basic calls and texts, battery lasts for two weeks easily and the camera is ok but would like it a bit better, hence the only reason I may upgrade in the future...or may not

Got it on Giff Gaff at a fiver a month and never got near to using my allowance yet.

I am happy to be at the trailing edge of technology when it comes to something that would try and take over my life

Whats a good monthly price to pay ? I've seen vodafone deal at £16 a month inc phone.

Depends how much you use a phone, mines £5 a month for my own phone, 3 hours calls, 300 texts and some bytes of internet..no idea how much.

You have to put an extra allowance on if outside the UK but calls within the EU are only 3p a min.

buy a cheap phone for about £80 pound moto g and put a pay per month sim in it

i pay £10 a month but use it alot for work virgin media 2000 mins 2 gb internet and texts

Some of the chinese smart phones are very good and a lot cheaper than some of the better known brands. They are handy, i have drawings and blueprints in file form on mine. I don't do bookface, twatter or any of that rubbish, so having one isn't as much of a nuisance as you think.

I'm not smart enough for a smart fone I'll stick with the thick one, same as me, if you know what I mean.

I do a lot of walking, cycling and running and for me a smart phone is invaluable for exploring new routes. I have the Ordnance Survey 25k maps for the whole of the country, 22GB worth, on my phone which I open with Alpine Quest. I can draw up a route, click follow path, and it will warn me if I am off course and direct me back on course without having to constantly look at the screen.

I also use it for Google maps for work, plus I always have a high quality camera to hand.
There are loads of other apps that are useful including Android Pay, online banking, Trigonometry calculator and of course you always have a torch when you need one.

I can diagnose the engine management light on a car, find out what the weather is going to do for the next 5 days, teach myself Bob Minor (a bell ringing method) or talk to my daughter in New Zealand for free via WhatsApp.

If only they would bring out a phone with a tape measure built in they would be perfect.

this photo was taken on one and here are the other three I have, one is the original one I got in 2007 and finally broke it earlier this year, another is one that I started to use last year as my original one was looking a bit battered and abused. the other one is a brand new one, for when I break the one I started using last year

I have a smart phone which is more clever than me - I just really use it to make/receive calls and send/receive text messages.

Most of its functions are wasted on me.

I have a cheap nokia very basic, I can make phones and receive them and it will do texts but I don't (someones texts me next time I see the wife pass her the phone and she answers it). Might have to get a replacement soon as I broke the screen, its on contract.

But the conversation normally goes like:
I want a basic phone that makes and receives phone calls, with large buttons for large fingers.

Oh yes sir we have **** and it has a camera of XXX bits and it will do.........

NO I want a phone that I can make and receive phone calls, with large buttons they are totally confused.

I have no plan in getting a smart phone for personal use.

For work I have to have a smart phone, which I possibly use more for the camera, then almost anything else, it is only for work, when I am not working it is either in the car or in the office, it is there for my safety etc, but like all new phones it can be tracked.

Can't beat the smart phones, they allow you to reject calls automatically where the number is withheld add numbers to the reject list, that's a bonus straight away as I don't get nuisance calls plus more messaging apps, sat nav and all manor of useful apps

Doro make phones for old gits, they are very basic and not expensive at all.
