Snapped upper wish bone bolt

I don't know why it sheared half way inside the bush one can only look at the sheared part and it looks like poor quality metal.

After having a thought maybe I over tightened the front nut before I tightened the rear nut because it was only the rear nut both sides that keeps working loose.

the rear nut will undo because of braking force ----- the front will tend to tighten.

on those arms you shouldnt have to touch the nuts, as the top through mount comes pre installed and preset in the arm?

That is why I originally thought the nyloc nuts were inferior and kept coming loose, at £60 per arm they were not that cheap!

So the centre bar between those bushes,is that captive? as in held so it cant move, in which case the nuts each end are stationary as the joint goes up and down,which means they should clamp tight on the centre of the bush (tubing) and then the bush moves, yet it looks like they were tight against the end of the thread but not against bush centre,so every time the suspension moved they were rubbed..or am I reading it completely wrong,you shouldnt have signs of filings there through movement ,thats a certainty.

The "bar" should not rotate in the bushes
The flex (rotational) in the bushes is enough to allow full suspension movement
This will be much less than 30 degrees 15 ether way
This is a very common set up in most vehicles
I would love to see the parts in real life

If the middle part is placed in a vice it is easily moved around and does not spring back of its own accord.

I am just re building the old one with some poly bushes to replace the new snapped one, Just ordered some M14 nylocks as that is the only size I cant get localy.

I would love you to see the parts in real life too a second opinion would have been great.
Just waiting for milners technical team to call me back

Sounds like the originals operate like a poly bush rather than a metalastic one, which over time may start to bind and try to rotate the bolt which should stay stationary.

I have seen failures like this before where the arm/bolt are being over stressed and eventually something has to give.

Have a look at this arm.

I was just checking the old arms and they are hard to move when in the vice, there is no play in the bolts, why did I bother changing them!

Anyway update the supplier is going to send me a replacement and they told be to use loctite on the other side to stop the nuts working loose

The bar shouldn't be freely rotating inside the bush, that's the issue that's slackening the nuts.

exactly I guess thread lock would work, I just ordered some more m14 bolts to use as lock nuts

I don't think thread lock is the answer, it's only designed to stop the nuts vibrating off, not to take load. There is something wrong as the nut should trap the tube inside the bush tight against a shoulder on the bolt & not allow any movement as Phillip said. The bush should then take all the flex in the rubber.

Are you doing the tightening with the weight on the ground, so the wishbone is in its driving position without loading up the bush?

Sorry I wasn't doubting you, but I've seen people do it in the air & wreck the bushes when they drop the vehicle onto the ground. (It was a mechanic as well!)

no it is cool I have done it before in my younger years when I didnt know any better

Yes, snapped arm.

Plain nuts tightened correctly will not come loose
If there is a problem with the manufacture you could weld the nuts on and the shaft would still work its self loose
The nylock is not to stop the nut coming loose just to stop it from unscrewing
