LURD, my cut 40 runs on about 45psi as indicated by the gauge on the back of it, and my compressor is set to give about 90psi at its gauge. IMHO you may find that the compressor you have will run almost as soon as you start to cut, plasma need lots of air. I have a 3hp/50ltr set up and that doesn't take long to start up when I start cuting.
I luv my cut 40 it looks very similar to yours but blue cased, best tips I can give are: Clean paint/underseal/powdercoat from metal where you want to cut first, it wont arc through otherwise. a start hole is useful on thicker stuff, when cutting holes or not starting from an edge. Buy some spare tips/cups etc, you'll need em, see shop-river on ebay etc. keep your torch hose/air supply line out of the line of fire/sparks when cutting! If your lucky and have a good condition mains electricity supply they may run with out poping the rcd's, they draw quite a high current(amps) when starting up.
But good 13amps plugs may work fine for you, if not well ask here for further advise.
Domestic 13amp mains/plugs work for me ok, (your experence may differ)
Use some eye protection!!!!! arc eye hurts! green #5 is about right for most users.
I use a full face sheild from BOC cost about £10 or so, worth every penny.
Most of all enjoy using your new toy and post a few pic's to show us lot
Oh btw compressor oil is available quite cheap from motor factors, you'll only need 1ltr or less just to top up the motor now and then.

Your man with the 40g gallon steel drum was very stupid & lucky. I've seen a 2ft hole in a brickwall from a lorry tyre going bang.
He wasn't my man I he was I'd have sacked him ,he worked for a customer of mine, A while ago a mobile tyre fitter was killed by an exploding lorry tyre not far from here.
My set up in action....Compressor and cut both running from one extension lead(HD one) It can be done....
Dusty, how big is that compressor? The main thing that's put me off getting a plasma cutter is the need for one, but that one -- if you'll pardon me -- doesn't look anything super powerful.

normally tho thats bad practice, its failing to seat either the beads exceeding 30 psi, or it was a split ring, with the ring not returned properly..... a few feet of hose on your line is the best way to avoid that cages are rubbish they just turn into a bomb with the tyre......
For Fingers and Lurd, Its a clarke Tiger 15/55 directdrive 3hp singlephase 50ltr tank, last years model from (Machine Mart)(wisper) New version is belt drive, said to run a bit quieter, probably a bit more reliable too. But I'm not buying a new one just yet!
It took me a lot of asking and reading to settle for this model, but it will run most air tools. I have a 1/2 drive impact gun, rated for 250lbs/ft (needs quite a lot of air) and it runs fine, have even run a Pro impact gun rated at650lbs/ft with it long enough to remove very tight chassis bolts!
The rule seems to be with air power is; Get the biggest you can afford.
That's the biggest I could afford and still manage to load into the car/trailer on myown.
Even so it's best part of six times what you spent I guess. (approx £300 + vat)

Just had a quick look at argos page again, O'er that's just really for small tools, nailing, cleaning with a blow gun, maybe a bit of painting using an airbrush etc.
From my experence that's going to struggle to give enough volume of air to cut with, Still i'd try it out! before taking it back....keep the recipeit did you?

yea i've kept it i'll try it tomorrow but if it doesnt work will take it back.
By the way could you try and have alook for one on the internet or on a major british suppilers website its just i really need one within the next week and only have about a £100 budget. Thanks massive help if you can help at all

According to the spec it runs off 230 volts, so it just plugs straight into UK mains.
At just under 5Kw you'd be pushing your luck running off a 13 amp socket.
That connector only changes the connector type, it won't give you any more current, you'd be best having an electrician install a spur witrh 16A blue sockets in your workshop sufficient to power your cutter and compressor at the same time.
