Rusty Tranny

Bought a Transit Smiley a couple of months ago, and as you all know they rust.
So started poking around a couple of days ago and started at the drivers step and sill. First go at something like this so not perfect, and needs finishing...



Started to cut the rot out





Need to finish seam welding it



Got a lot more to do so will keep the pics etc coming. Like I said my first time doing something like this

ive done plenty of those things, make sure everything that was originally a complete panel is fully welded or it will fail mot, if it was originally spot welded it will be ok to spot weld

Yeah I know it needs to be fully welded, and I'll do it over the next day or so. If it stays dry. Was doing it in the in laws garage but got off 'upsetting' the neighbours. It's still M.O.T'ed until the end of December, but looking over it Stevie Wonder must of done it with the amount of rust on it

you can buy full steps, front inner wheel arches front outer wheel arches, rear wheel arches rear door bottoms inner and outer & front step sills

30 odd years from introduction and still rotting in the same places, I've had several of them and mine just got lighter by the day

to be fair the mk5 lasted better then the new ones and even the merc sprinters started to rust in the most stupid places where as the transit didnt

HEHE the new ones are coated in rustanising
it is a top secret process that combats vans reaching 15yrs old

Lol.. My Brother pulled a tranny once years ago. Met 'her' in a local pub and was all over 'her'. Put his hand down stairs to have a feel and felt his bits. He got up screaming and going nuts.


It's a R-plate 97. It's not as bad as a few I looked at before this, but still fairly rotted.
Went out this morning to finish it off, get everything ready then thought sod it, what's the point. So left it to rot away

There used to be a tranny in Gloucester years ago, went by the name of Chummy. Used to always be dressed in hot pants, he/she used to get picked up by the long distance lorry drivers & you were forever hearing about him being chucked out of the cab on the ring road with a black eye.

Haven't done much to this, just been using it to shift rubbish etc, but my Insurance company went tits up cancelled my insurance so took it off the road. Was going to flog it, but then thought I'd just practice the welding on it. If I mess it up, no worries, it's rusted anyway... Started doing the sills yesterday. Was going to do more today but out of cutting discs and weathers a bit windy.



Does this look ok? Missus moved the welder and fooked about with the settings and cant remember what I had them at

The local rusty tranny is also continuing to deteriorate; Suspension sagging, tatty bodywork that's seen better days, and I've even be told the ride has worsened.

Had another go at 'welding' earlier, and seriously thinking of just saying fook it and getting rid

repairs look good to me------- damn sight better than a lot I see doing tests.
only problem is modern trannies rust faster than a welder can run!
