Resurfacing brake discs ?

In the past I've had brake discs reground. Once I skimmed discs on a lathe but despite being careful still didn't manage to get them perfect so the brake pedal pulsed and new discs needed.
My Marlin Roadster has Marina uprights and hubs / brakes. The discs are quite rusty but no noticeable wear. Buy new discs was my initial intention until I found they are £80+ a pair
Can you still get discs, which are well within thickness tolerance, reground or has that now become defunct like scraping bearings, resurfacing valves, reaming kingpins, reriveting new brake linings and so on ?

Check the surface of thee disc on a surface plate. They may be true and the hub is dirty or warped.

£80 is a bit steep, shop around, avoid haffords and use other national chains. You can get the cheaper. I asked at my local place and they are £18 each plus vat, if you can wait a few days.

You can get the skimmed, but few places due it for the risk of getting blamed if it goes wrong.
Re riveting linings is still done, but at a cost. Those who need it are in a club and the club get it done in bulk.
You may find a person who does it in a shed, but it is a dyeing trade.

I remember seeing on-the-car resurfacing being advertised long ago, but thought it must have died out since replacement disks for common vehicles are fairly cheap nowadays.

Only asking because I have now been told that it is quite a complex task to remove rear disks from my Panda 4x4. Apparently the disks cannot be manoeuvred past the reaction frame, and the reaction frame bolts cannot be undone without major dismantling of the rear axle, and the job involves removal of the wheel bearings. Or have I been mis-informed?

On the transits that are rear wheel drive you have to remove the half shaft and bearings to remove the discs so it's quite possible but can't say for sure as I've not worked on one

The Brembos in the link are good discs and a bit cheaper than your quote (remember nowadays for some unexplained reason, discs are sold individually), I can't see resurfacing being much cheaper and there'd be no guarantee (unlike new) so personally I'd go for new.

You could jack your car up and put it in gear with the motor running and angle grind the rust off with a flap disk.

It wouldn't be the first time I've done that to squeeze a cheap daily through a ticket.

…and if I remember rightly, the Alfasud was designed so that original pads and disks would outlast the bodywork.

Jag E-type, XJ6, TVR wedges etc. used the Salisbury diff with inboard Girling calipers, so you have to dismantle the rear suspension and take the drive shafts off (as well as the calipers) to change the discs. It's easier to drop the whole rear end on the floor. The Esprit did something similar up to the S3 with a Citroen transaxle and inboard discs; Lotus then decided to have a proper laff with the Eclat and Elite which have inboard DRUMS so you can't even change the bloody pads without a rear-end strip! Rumour has it that the diff and drums were taken from a milk float...

I've got a big container full of various sized rivets for brake shoes. Found it in late father-in-laws shed - he was workshop foreman of a large car main dealership in '50's & '60's.

They were copper, soft anneled and the lining was stretched over a clean shoe.
Sometimes with a hot animal glue.

I've done a few in the past! I bought one set & the rivets were missing, it was for my brothers car & we had to get it done, good old pop rivets saved the day. Wouldn't do it today though.
