70 amps AC is at the higher end of wp9 capabilities mate. A dearer one would probably cope with 100amps but after that your gonna kill em.
Wp26 will cope with up to 200 amps DC (170-200 AC ).
Water cooling is the only realistic way to weld on AC with a tiny torch.

WP26 will last longer at lower amps because it's rated to a higher amperage, you'll also want to look for good quality. Something with good insulation.. Parweld's head are a decent quality and quite affordable.

Hi mate. The very most your ever gonna realistically weld on a wp9 with AC is 100 amps. This is really limiting with regards to getting a pool going as we are talking 2mm thick cold aluminium in case scenarios of decent sized bits and fillet welding.
The closest your going to get to a small sized torch with half decent current capability from gas cooling is a stubby front end kit on a wp17. This will give you 130 ish amps on AC consistently 3-4 mm depending on piece sizes and joints. Below is my light travel torch when water cooling isn't possible. Its as I say a wp17 with stubby gas lens. It's not an expensive torch because it's used not too frequent but size wise it's not bad even in fiddly situations.

Exactly. And I don't like to blow my own trumpet as I find it quite arrogant but I've been tig welding for a long time and I am not grinding much tungsten any more. Occasional touch when the point dulls through re strikes but Some of mine are years old still in use. Waiting for them to be the size of match sticks before I can shorten a back cap means I'll be waiting quite a significant amount of time.

Surely by that time, you've gone through a few tungstens.
Bully for you. Meanwhile in the real world, it cant be helped.
I've a load, mainly from welding .9mm 304/316 in stupidly restricted areas. Most from stuffing the rod into it

Ho ho , I am mostly tungsten grinding not tigging .
The wp 9 melted while I was waiting for a puddle to appear on some 5mm aluminium .
I did get a puddle going and have melted the bits together - torch came 2nd !
I'll have another go with the 26 at the weekend .

You hold a torch very different to me. The back cap never touches my hand.
Edit. It never touches my hand while welding.
