Forgive me here. My weakest subject but I need a little advice. I've currently bought a little cooler which I'm modifying in my spare time.
The pump is one I'm familiar with. Ceme et3009 but it's wired into some fancy circuit board that I don't want to use. I want to wire it into a switch and to the mains plug. Now this pump doesn't work with the terminals wired straight up to a plug and I don't really understand why but it states it either needs an AC diode plug or a DC square wave converter. WTF!!!!!!
Can some one simplify this to a simple level.
I just need to know what to buy and where to get it to make this pump work.

Looks like it will need a half wave rectified supply, maybe to give a 50Hz pulse to the solenoid coil.
Will see what info i can find do you have any other part numbers or info.

In its simplistic form it might just need a diode in the live line, but am not 100% at the moment.

To me that means it runs on 230 VAC, and requires a square wave converter to run on DC, which makes sense (To me) given that it's a solenoid.

EDIT; Just seen this, which says "ELECTRICAL CONNECTION - (A.C. ~) through a diode", and this which comes with a connector (Little grey and black square in the first pic), presumably this is their 'Diode plug'.
Try connecting it with a diode (This will do) between the pump and the mains' live (Either way around, it doesn't matter).

I have to agree with Seadog, I'd expect it to do something when given straight mains, are you sure it works and did you definitely wire it right?

Is this stamped 230v AC on the body, when you connected direct did it hum at all?

It does something on the mains in the way of a quiet hmmmmmmmm

I'm a total Pratt when it comes to wires and understanding the leccy lingo.
I appreciate the help.
I phoned a company that stock ceme spares but they don't supply the plugs. I can connect live and neutral to it and a switch but I don't understand how I can give it 50hz AC.

You need something like a 400v diode rated at 1 amp in series with the live, a 1N4004 would do.

It chops off half of the AC waveform.

You need to break into the brown lead and solder the diode in series. Ideally you'll have heatshrink over the diode once installed and then a further layerover the top of the cable to close it all up. Does that make any sense to you?

Just put the diode inline with your live after the switch. Either solder or a but crimp on each end the a bit of heat shrink over the lot or, solder between a pin and your cable inside the solenoid plug.

Ok gents. I've ordered a little pack of 1n4004 diodes so I'll see how that pans out once I get one stuck in with a dab of solder.

About 10 amps, solder filler wire. No idea about shielding gas. Good luck!

I can solder one on easy enough. But if was to get the plug ready to go on that would be the best and tidiest solution.
