I sold it to buy a bathroom after renovating it, I got about 1200 for it, now they are 20K+

I sold my BMW Isetta bubble car to pay for my sons first birthday (he's 32 next week). Got £125 for it

used to have a1968 HB viva GT 2.0 engine on 155x13 michilen ZX tyres that could go sideways anywhere picture not of my car worth a bomb now

Done that between Livingston and Shotts when my company car, a Sierra hit a patch of black ice and I reversed into a tree at 30mph. The nice thing about leased company cars is they just ask where is it and where do want the replcement delivered to?.

Been there and done that last year, foreign lorry driver, motorway and changing lanes is a bad mix

Don't young drivers with silly cars have to have tracking devices and black box recorders fitted these days for insurance purposes ?

MX5 would be the best, can be bought very cheap (although maybe check quotes for UK vs Imports).
...and he may learn how to weld !!

my younger brother is currently driving a Suzuki ignis awd but he wants something fun.

He has never been into cars at all but he has asked me if I can find him a rwd as he wants to learn how to control and slide a car about.

Now he is just about to turn 18 so cheap insurance is the main thing, anything else can be sorted by me.

I'm thinking he doesn't need much power as long as the car is light.

Any suggestions?

Had you not considered that he may want to learn how to control a car so that in the enventuality that he needs to be able to control it in such a way, he can do it without panicking or having to think about it?

Who said anything about a silly car... Just looking for a small, cheap rwd, it can be a 1 litre for all he cares

If you want *proper* bum twitching back end sliding adrenalin, can i suggest the south trail down ben nevis on a push bike?
Best part of 10 miles downhill at 30+mph. Hairpin about every 100yrds -lock back wheel and skid to reverse direction, with a 10-20ft drop if you miss the corner.
Five hours to cycle to the top. 20minutes back down.

I think these parts of your opening post helped others to determine what he was planning:

With the best intentions in the world it is difficult not to have a vision of some car park tyre burning going on.

We have land to play on, a mix of mud and gravel, it's an old horse paddock attached to the farm I shoot that hasn't been used for years and I ha e got permission to use it as I see fit until they find something to do with it providing I dont damage boundaries

Im currently using it to zero on and shoot clays on but it's a decent size

isn't that called an advanced driving test, of which an element might involve some time on a skid pan. If he does buy whatever type of car hes after, where is he going to learn how to perform controlled sideways movements, hopefully not on a public road, and does he have any plans of informing the insurance company of his intentions ?

So in that case. buy a wreck and just play with it entirerly on the land - then he can buy a knackered 3L BMW 3 series and not have to MOT or insure it.

Some time, and whenever you want are totally different things though and advance tests aren't cheap...

Also on private land as mentioned in a previous post there will be no insurance, this is why I won't let him use his current daily

If it's an old horse paddock, grab a Beetle chassis with a V5 and a beach buggy body, or one prebuilt, many of the ropey ones change hands under a grand.
