Drill Press Stand/Cabinet

I want to make a stand for my Fobco Drill. Currently its on a trestle table made from a kitchen counter top.

This is what i've sketched up.

The draws will be the hardest part for me.

Should i use box or angle iron for this? What thickness?

Any recommendations on draw sliders?

I don't have much room hopefully its wide enough i would also like to add castors.

Have you thought about using a tool chest on wheels? Aldi have them cheap on a offer tomorrow.
Draws I would look for the stacks of office paper draws and just make a frame around them saves a lot of work.

I don't think the aldi here get the good stuff .

My step dad used to own a second hand furniture shop in south london he must have had hundreds of them cabinets over the years. Not much second hand stuff here but will keep an eye out.

Doesn't matter weight wise or even for strength. What does matter is that there is some way to attach it to a wall. If it isn't bolted to a wall it will need to be heavy and on retractible (not locking) casters.

Nah. Bolt regular castors to a hinged plate and push to the floor with a bolt.

Box each corner
Flat for back stops

Don't put a drill stand on wheels imo

It's very easy to do non retractable casters that although fixed are raised off the ground by height adjusting feet ( m16 or m20) at each corner.
Just take the wheels off the ground with them

Just use threaded stud weld a nut/ foot on the bottom a locking nut on the thread and a fixed nut welded to the capping plate inside the box section

Couldn't find many tall filing cabinets there are a couple of second hand places will pop there next week.

I have some 30mm (1.5mm thick) box would that be ok for the frame or get something stronger?

As usual got a bit side tracked.

Found a place that does second hand office furniture they don't have many high filing cabinets.

Maybe a couple of these mounted into a frame with a nice wooden top could be my main bench?

id use either the window wall or the left wall or both the place near the door could be used for scrap metal storage

then you can have your welder on a trolley and also the gas bottle thats on wheels

with yours you could add loads in there a lathe a bender within middle of the floor or a stand where you could fit your vice or a bender in its place
