What's in your parts washer?

I have been using Bilt Hamber Surfex HD as is biodegradeable, you can pump it safely and its doesn't stink. It's not bad but I still revert to a small tray, parafin and a brush for some stuff.

I have lots of red diesel and at 40p a litre its economical enough but it stinks.

If you tend to resort to paraffin for some stuff, I think you've answered your own question. I don't use a parts washer, but for cleaning/degreasing, it's kerosene, (heating oil), or paraffin every time for me. Cuts through caked on crud better than the likes of white spirit or turpentine substitute, and I prefer it to diesel. Kerosene does have a slightly more pungent odour than paraffin, but nothing too bad.

I've got paraffin in mine. I filter it every so often through coffee filters and that extends the useful life.

not sure, heady mix of paraffin, red diesel and some heating oil. I'm going to have to clean it one day but I've been putting that job off for about 5 years now and it still gets things clean. I topped off a parafin heater with it a few years ago and the fumes were terrible so not even sure what I could use it for!

Not really a true parts washer but my ice cream tub with a stainless tray on top is full of paraffin, white spirit and Tardis, it works pretty well.

I have one of those small bench top parts washers with a solvent called Lotoxane in it. I rarely use it as it is too cramped and the table is so flimsy it collapses if you put anything heavy in it. The lotoxane is generally a good degreaser but I am very allergic to it, if I get it on my skin I get a bad rash.

Instead I use half a 20l drum split lengthways, a paintbush and a saucepan of a mixture of diesel, heating oil, petrol & cellulose thinners. Not sure what ratio, it comes from a waste solvent drum I have.

Heating oil in mine, works pretty well snd is cheap. Being N oil it doesn't completely degrease but it's good enough for most things. Jizer is great but it's expensive.

I notice that no-one uses Gunk, I haven't used it for many years, it used to be the only thing readily available apart from paraffin. I always found it removed the grot but replaced it with an oily greasy mess that was as hard to get off as the original, so still needed the paraffin. I know it's still available, but I'm sure they must have changed the formulation. It was a revelation when Jizer became available.

I just grabbed a gallon of kerosene as they wanted 9 quid for a gallon paraffin.

I would have had some jizer as it's on offer for 16 quid a gallon from euro car parts but the fact they say the RRP is 54 quid made me wonder...lol

Kerosene is cheaper and pongs more than paraffin. For most uses, you'd notice little difference other than the smell.
