You didn't do too badly at that price, to be honest. The 11* series seem to be quite desired by some, so tend to command decent money. Dropping on gear at low prices is a patience game. Stonking bargains do occasionally appear, but it can take yonks for it to happen. I occasionally pay more than I normally would if something unusual or relatively rare crops up. A good price is whatever you're willing to pay for something you want.

Well it looks like I will have to post some vice pictures to get them identified, clearing a shed at my moms house today and found 3 vices, one marked Record No.0, another similar size and a much larger one, all made in England.

Not seen it since it was installed, I should have been in that area last week but was working elsewhere.

Had some time today to dig the vices out

Couple of these, this is the better of the two

Self assembly Record No.23, just got to work out how it goes together

Paramo No.3, never heard of them, but British made

Nice little cloth bag with spare jaws & screws

Think this came as a "bare bones" vice and you make the wooden jaws etc.?

Still just wondering if any of you fellow vice users know where I may be able to acquire a set of jaws for the aforementioned vice.

If you download the 1963 Record No 17 catalogue you'll find an exploded diagram near the back that covers the the No 21- 25

That has to be one of the ugliest vices I've ever seen.

They're actually quite a nice vice in the flesh, and there doesn't seem to be many of them knocking about, even in Europe. It's a Soderfors/Bofors. Swedish origin.

You're pretty much going to have to make some for it if you want to replace them. How bad a condition are the original inserts, or are they just missing?

That's in nice condition. Looks practically unused, and still with the original stickers to boot.

The underside should look something similar to this when reassembled, though it'll likely have a cast, bolt on bridge underneath, in place of the short piece of bent steel on this one.

Paramo No.3, never heard of them, but British made

Parramore foundry at Rotherham/Sheffield made those. Apparently as a Record production backup during wartime, (incase Record were bombed), but continued vice production after the war too. I seem to recall someone on here worked there whilst the foundry was still running.

Think this came as a "bare bones" vice and you make the wooden jaws etc.?

That's normal for wood vices. They have screw holes in the jaws so that you can add the jaw linings of your choice.

Cheers for those. Just been downloading them, so I can have a browse of them later. Only a year? That's a bit of a rush job ain't it? I thought the general rule of thumb was around a minimum of three years before a bloke gets their finger out and sorts/finishes a task?
