I would like to see him weld in person ...in the flesh maybe I'm an old sceptic, but a lot of that looks machine welded to me, have seen some damn good welders in the oil, gas, food, pharmaceuticals, and nuclear industries in my years, but never anyone with a hand as steady as that, suppose there has to be one of a kind in a lifetime somewhere, sorry if I sound sour, I just find it hard to believe.

Hmmm, I was thinking the same, some of the runs just look way too good to be done by hand. I find it hard to believe he would claim to do them by hand if they are machine welds though. Dunno, if they are done by hand then he really is incredibly talented. Someone like Matt1978 or TechnicAl would probably be able to tell.

I believe it. He's walking the cup, and doing it well! The fact that he show's a side-by-side comparison between conventional tig and cupwalking (and the conventional tig is top notch too), sells it to me.

Same here, I have never seen anything like it in my life, and if the guy is for real then I apologize unreservedly....

On another topic can someone please explain 'walking the cup' to me, this term is new to me.....

I believe it. He's walking the cup, and doing it well! The fact that he show's a side-by-side comparison between conventional tig and cupwalking (and the conventional tig is top notch too), sells it to me.

I think your right the marks in the movement act as a witness, a carefully selected ceramic and corect stick out and he'd be away.... to take nothing away its a very decent weld..

I might add, chaps, that if you look carefully at the photos, the weld edges are not as even as might first seem. A welding machine would have got the edges perfect. Yer man has not, quite.

Walking the cup is where you literally walk the ceramic along the weld, rocking left, right, left, right. Make sure you rock the same amount each time (for a regular edge), and keep the filler rod in the pool at all times, rather than the pool/dab/cool/pool/dab/cool of conventional tig. It gives a machine-like finish, and is faster.

The cup is selected size-wise to fit the weld and movement. Start on a small cup, then increase size as the fills/cap are layed down.

Interestingly Tday I have been seeing machine layed welds, with hand layed tacks, (In sparkeys side of the water) put the two side by side and you can tell a machine straight off, as you say sidewalls are a giveaway along with stops and starts....

Well I guess we can dream........they look outstanding. The TIG welds on the stainless exhausts of my race car are bloody good.......but these are better.
Never had a go at TIG, is it much harder than MIG?

i have been familiar with this lads work for over a year now and in that time he has posted the odd bits and pieces of his approach. one particular pic stood out as regards my interest, that was a mild steel tig root. i often wondered how he did this. as luck would have it he explained it in full a couple of months ago on zaps site.i have seen good tidy tig roots but that is perfect. burning, engloid has i think 30 odd codes and works for naasa i work here, ill let you work on the league table f,j
