Hello chaps.
I've been searching for a decent lathe for some time now - I've scoured everything from local classifieds to Ebay, gumtree, specialist websites to industrial auctions and still haven't found myself a bargain. I very nearly bought a Clarke CL430 but changed my mind when I went and had a look at it!
The biggest problem I've got is the price of used instruments - Boxford, Myford and all that are getting on for 2k for a nice, tidy example that's been serviced from home and workshop (or similar). Anything I've seen for around the 1k area looks like it's been stored at the bottom of the sea for a few years, is otherwise shagged or at the other end of the country.
I don't want to buy something cheap and find it's lacking accuracy/quality, needs a load of repair work or fiddling to make it usable or something small that I'll outgrow in the coming years.
I ended up looking at new Warco units for around at the 3k area - this and this on paper seem to have everything that I can conceivably need for now and the future plus I should be good for spares and other bits, not to mention warrantee.
I've still got a few months before the garage extension so it's not a mega pressing issue at the moment but I'd at least like to be able to get something on order in the near future.
So what would you guys do? Keep looking out for an older unit or jump for the new Warco? I'm genuinely lost on this one as it's a big chunk of money and I don't want to be kicking myself in the **** a couple of years down the road!
I really appreciate your advice!
Cheers,
Fro
