This might be the only time I use a welder, or it might turn into a love affair that continues.
I have to make some legs for a wooden slab (I work with wood normally and can be found on various woodworking forums and try to be helpful there) but wooden legs would be OTT for this piece. My plan is three short lengths of rebar bent into a tripod resembling legs and welded at the top to stop them splaying.
Hope I've painted the right picture there.
A structural steel company locally suggested I start out with a 180A Mig as it's the easiest generally, but perhaps not for this particular application. From what I've gleaned on here, because of the thickness of the rebar (and not really understanding the physics of welding), I might suffer with it not being enough to do it. One post I read here suggested the OP go for an Arc welder instead for this kind of work? Would that be suitable for varying type of welds to hold pieces of metal together?
So, given my limited budget, and the fact I may use this once only (I do hope not by the way) which way should I go?
Perhaps find someone locally who will do the work for me might be the best solution, doesn't help me long term though as it might turn out to be a very useful skill.
Thanks in advance.
