Gloves

Not entirely sure if this is where this post belongs but I'll ask anyways.

At work we get supplied with welding gloves and it's brilliant having an endless supply however the gloves are big and a nightmare when welding the likes on nuts onto box section having to take the gloves off place it put them back on and repeat etc.

Any suggestions on decent fitted gloves for mig welding.

Try tig gloves,they are a bit thinner gauge but usually fit the hand better and give improved feeling and dexterity.

I'm pretty sure the usual welders gauntlets give you a choice of size 10 take it or leave it.

Like Frazerruss said try tig gloves.

Miller tig gloves are supposed to be the dogs danglies... langy does them I believe

Have a pair of water pump pliers handy and use them to position the fiddly bits so you don't have to keep taking your gloves off.

They ARE nice to wear but quite a few quid and now mine have got a bit dirty I'm worried about how to clean them without ruining them.

When I'm tacking fiddly bits I don't wear a glove on my left hand for the same reason. I use an old long screwdriver with 4 or 5 m6 nuts welded together on the end of it with an old mig tip screwed in. Just position the bolt and hold it in place with the screwdriver, if your doing a lot I find thin gloves are no good.

Think I might use one of the suggested tools to manage right now and have a search to see if they have smaller sizes other than the size 10, I do nine hours a day of pretty constant welding and grinding so need something that'll with stand heavy use

All leather gardening gloves are great for tacking or grinding as well, you should be able to get some that fit you better.

If it's repeated work then I would suggest making a jig.

I was thinking you could try gardening gloves, the TIG gloves I have used have been made from very thin leather.

Having small hands welding gloves are a nightmare to find for me size 7 small

for fiddly bits as you describe, I use spring metal spring clamps to pick up and hold the fiddly bits. they can also be clamped on to the job to ease the weight of the torch cable. Also handy for clamping welding curtain material to screen off the prat with the grinder next to you if you need to.
You can also pull in the back of a glove and clip a small one on to take up surplus glove for some jobs, but, only as temporary measure.
TIG gloves are a bit of an exception to the rule, but welding gloves should not be too tight a fit in case you need to fire a glove off fast to avoid a burn, MIG is not so bad, as its more common in MMA in my experience, but with all processes, you run the risk of a hot glove and it needs to come off fast.

We used to be issued with Nomex gloves like these http://www.body-armour-protection.co.uk/blackhawk-fury-hd-with-nomex-gloves.html bit pricey and again if you did buy something like that I advise not getting too tight a fit for welding work.

Tig gloves then are not suitable if your Mig welding and grinding all day. They are thinner material to enable more of a delicate touch when using/feeding filler rod through your hands. You'll burn or cut your hands if you try and do the same job with Less material covering your mittens. I think it's going to be a case of searching the net and buying your own pair of ladies mig gloves. More than likely they'll be coming from America but it'll be worth the wait. If it's a good company You work for they should reimburse you the money so keep the invoice and ask the question. Good luck.

If you're welding a load of captive nuts just pre-load them onto some bolts by a turn or two then you can pick up each bolt and hold the nut in place without risk of burning yourself.
