A friend and i were pondering that these days kids never see to make Go-carts, like we used to. Indeed they don't seem to know how.The sayings seems to be true that it only takes a single generation not passing on a skill for it to be in jeopardy and 2 generations not passing on a skill for it to be lost.
Then i realized that the old prams that seemed to litter the landscape of recreation grounds, alleyways and back yards, have gone. Not sure why this is. Maybe its because the old 'Silverline" leaf sprung, two big wheels, two small wheels pram seem to be no more. Those bizarre three wheeler buggy things seem to be all the rage now. And no mother dare be seen with anything else! Those old prams were virtually made to be turned into go-carts. With the two big wheels at the rear of your cart for stability and strength, where it needed it (the guy at the back pushing then jumping on board once sufficient speed was attained) the two small wheels were perfect for th front steering wheels of your cart.
So there we have it. Mystery solved. Its all down to 1: the Fashionistas declaring old prams to be dull and "out" and declaring new buggy type things to be "hip & trendy" 2: Kids today not having any mechanical nous that was generally learned osmosis style from big brothers and older friends.
I declare the mystery solved. Unless you know different ?
