Looking for a little help plz

Is Mike Huggon still BOC managing director???

I had a mass of trouble last year with BOC mixing my accout up with someone elses.

as a result, they thought I was a late payer, after months of this they realised there mistakes and corrected things

But my account shows that they are credited me for late payments and the gas charges

Well this year guess who forgot to pay BOC on time ??? me lol

Payment was due 20th Feb This year,

recived a overdue account reminder letter on about the 26th 27th of Feb, it also went on to say, and I quote "we recognise that late payment can often be a result of an oversight etc etc"

so being a good boy I made payment with in 7 days

well I returned home yesterday to a letter from BOC saying I have been charged a late payment fee.

so I gets on the phone to BOC, speck to one of the girls there,

Its still showing on my account as there has been a lot of goings on and late payments for rent and gas etc, the customer services keep saying you have missed payments in the past blah blah blah,

and as such they are not willing to remove the late payment fee.

I know I missed the payment date, yes slap on the wrist but why send me a reminder if they wont allow me to pay it?????

I feel hard done by and want to take a little stand (only a little one mind lol )

My payment date was due on 20th Febuary, by the 1st of March my account is now blocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if its in your contract you are only making things worse. The only thing that can legally come of this is you get your account closed. I think you should pay the fee and fee amount owed because you wont win anything and it shouldn't be seen as personal. Late payment fees, interest etc are all legal when correctly applied and speaking nice will get you much nearer to a win but at what risk / cost/time

I had a similar thing, some confusion over when I had or hadn't paid a late bill. I chatted up customer services and they gave me a substantial discount on my rental. I mean, when I go to the shop, the guys at the desk can't believe it. £55 per annum for Argon size Y.

Large companies tend to have subsidiaries and holding companies so you may have to do a bit of digging.

If they stick to breach of contract, then the OP may think about invoicing them for the time he spent resolving their errors. Contracts / faults etc. go both ways.

Reading between the lines here but I rather suspect you haven't been having very productive discussions on the phone with customer services? The excessive use of punctuation is a dead giveaway.

Take a deep breath, decide exactly what it is you want to achieve in the conversation, then call. I suggest you do not decide to vent your anger (won't help) or make accusations (they won't care). Instead, a better approach is to be apologetic and worried because you would like to remain a loyal customer over the long term but the confusion over your account was distressing - what can they suggest that would help. You are also keen to subscribe to a direct debit scheme....

Any fees must represent the actual cost of the issue. Anything more is a penalty and therefore unlawful. Just like the car park parasites and their "fines".

But on a good note,

I was given the opption to leave a feeback statment after the phone call.

Just got a call back from BOC

First words they uttered was we apoligise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


The late fees have been removed and will NEVER be apllied again,

They could clearly see the problems I had last year and the feedback it has left on my account.

AND THE SUN IS SHINING OUTSIDE lol

Best thing to do with BOC is set up a direct debit, then at the end of the month you get a statement in the post, (or by email if you register) they then take the money round the 20th of the next month so you have plenty of time to make sure the funds are available.

I hate arguments with any supplier, I`m just the little bloke who makes up X % of a companys business, my line of chat up is I`m not their biggest user by far I`m not their biggest customer and never will be -- but they are my one and only sole supplier, every thing I buy in there line of supplies I give them first chance. It normally works and I got no complaints, We all cant buy hundreds of this and dozens of that, sometimes we only want one.

Not if that represents the cost for the amount of time & resources in handling your error.

Its not hard to run up £15 in man hours.

Just think at a car dealers the mechanic would not even have walked from his bench to your car & it would cost you more.

However in your case they did need to try harder & now happily they have.

You make the point so well, if you ever make things hard for the staff on line on such matters it just gets harder

Due to my own fault (disorganised) I probably pay that £15 late fee on nearly half my bills

I should set up a direct debit but I hate the idea of 'outsiders' having access to take money out of my account whenever they see fit.

Am I paranoid? Maybe, but in the past ive had instances such as a website provider taking the yearly renewal out of my account- I hadnt authorised it, they simply still had my card details on their system from the previous year

That isn't direct debit, it's CCA. Different altogether. With DD you remain in control and can immediately get a refund for any payment you don't recall. With CCA it is up to the payee to cancel it, in theory you are at their mercy. However, many banks with a little pressure, will void a CCA although they may tell you it's impossible.
