I did a job today for a used car sales warehouse.
I was installing a swing barrier on the inside of the factory to span the gap of the roller shutters, to make it more secure if the shutters ever got rammed.
Rather than masonary bolts I decided to use m16 stud bar and drill straight through the brickwork to the outside, nut either end and weld it up once tightened. (8 fixings per side )
The first drill through popped a large piece off the face of the outer brickwork (which I knew was a possibility tbh) Luckily, I was sliding 4" x 4" plates as a washer which hid it.
After that, I tried drilling half way from the inside, then measuring the position and drilling from the outside so they would meet in the middle- but the wall was 15" thick and if the drill went slightly askew, they always missed each other.
Sooo... who can tell me where I was going wrong?
