Tool station one third sheet sander. Lasted 20 mins before it was shot. Bounced of the wall nicely as it would have cost me more in fuel to go and return it than the cost of the sander!!!!!!

Are Ryobi and Silverline connected?

Nope, Ryobi are a TTI owned brand alongside Milwaukee and AEG.

IIRC Silverline was formed by the guy who started Screwfix before selling it to the Kingfisher Group. Interestingly, their website breaks the law regarding essential business information.

probably not, just a comparison of the quality of both companies. I have had some good sliverline stuf, mainly consumable things like screwdriver bits and so on, they seem to last ad long as the other brands. I have had a few ryobi power tools and quality and feel has been crap, as is the battery life

I've seen two Ryobi routers, both which cost a bit over a ton and both which died after two or three hours running time. One had eaten up a set of brushes and I was asked to see if it was worth fitting new brushes. It wasn't because the reason it had eaten the brushes was that it had a couple of raised commutator segments. A write off and disgusting for a £100 plus item . The other one had the depth stop lock broken off. Cost about £20 to replace, which is a bit odd because most of the spares were reasonable. It still hasn't been fixed.

I know someone who buys and wears out a lot of jigsaws. The £130 Makitas last 9 months to a year of daily use, and they are generally chucked after they are on a new set of brushes and because they've been dropped on the concrete so much. He tried a Ryobi which lasted about a couple of months and it was completely worn out.

The next door neighbour does gardening as a business, He was into Ryobi stuff and had a hedge cutter and strimmer - good value he reckoned. I said maybe, but everyone who's serious about this seems to settle for paying a painful amount of money and gets a Stihl or Husqvarna. Last time I looked he had just bought a Stihl hedgecutter.

Kinzo were a Dutch company, now out of business, selling cheap Chinese stuff. I know someone who bought two of their 1000W impact drills for about £20 each. The first got through a set of brushes very fast and he couldn't find the spares, so for some reason he bought a second Kinzo. That was thoroughly knackered after a few hours use. He couldn't find the receipts for either. £40 which could have been put towards a Blue Bosch/Makita.

i would take a stihl or husky over Ryobi crap any day. My mate wanted a tree dropped in his garden and bought a Ryobi 18V chainsaw. It lasted about 8 mins in a charge. He then called me to ask my missis uncle.to come out with his Husky. Tree didn't know what hit it.

the one he had came with 2 batteries. spent less than 20 mins cutting then had to wait 2 hours to charge each one up. they were red hot after we used it to chop up a few pallets as a sort of mini test. it jammed up easily and that was with a new and sharp chain

FWIW, I tend to forget some of the useless tools I've bought. But I have had some surprises: my chinese air compressor goes a treat and it powers a DA quite happily. I bought some 'universal' socket wrenches which have a six sided tapered socket which are great. They fit a range of metric and imperial nuts and are really useful for holding the other side of a nut. Never even feel like slipping or rounding a nut and seem really well made. I'll post a pic because they're surprisingly useful.

I also had the funds to replace my old cordless drill recently and splashed out (careful vicar...) on a DeWalt brushless 18V drill - what a revelation! Spendy but soooo good, even my wife has used it recently and remarked about how powerful and small it is.

there brill things for cutting down bonsai treesu can even reach of a skirtingboard ladder as well

Had great use from my Ryobi 230 grinder (9 yrs), but a bit heavy compared to others. Router is OK too. Bought a cheepnese grinder out on a job, quicker that going back to w/shop. Just lasted the morning, which was enough. Gears stripped.
Client brings in a silverline hole cutter for his job. To 'save me the trouble' i.e. time, of getting one. It polished the surface as its teeth dissapeared.
When spannering aircraft, I used Britool 3/8 sockets, are they still around? Mine are fine, as are all the Snap On tools I bought years ago. Usually buy cheap spanners as a standby, don't mind cutting and welding them.
RAF mech used to moonlight with us from Swanton Morley. His job was evaluation of tools for jobs on RAF planes. Naturally he had the most amazing collection of freebies from the agents, Rated Facom as best value.
Mate was taking off the rear axle from his Jag Mk2. Jacked up one side, put on the coil compressers and wound down the jack. felt loaded, so he looked under. The compressors had stripped.

I've got an 18v li ion Makita circular saw and I rate it quite highly, last ages on a charge and only takes 20mins to charge up.

bought a vice grips in woodies for like 3 squid one day for one job said itd work for holding on earth leads after ha that was a joke **** of a yoke tears the hand of you even clamping an earth lead on bought a good few bits like that one job where its cheaper than driving back for my own one
on the other side i have 2 irwin vice grips bout bout 12 year old still going strong bout 2 lately and there only ****s a yokes useless really
