The ford transit keep getting mentioned, it's bound too, there's probably more transits on the road than most other models and doing on average more mileage than others.

interesting, however as stated it could be that all the meganes failed on brake lights. unlikely I know as you are lucky if you can actually get your megane to a test station without it throwing something major

Arr, but they went like "Fast of a chrome plate shovel" I used to have one as a service van, Dagenham to Warrington in 3 3/4 hours and 12 gallons of best 4 star, long long before the M25 was built.

Haha, i remember (just) that choice at the fuel pump...2 star? 3 star? 4 star? The days before unleaded. You could still get leaded petrol up to 10(?) years ago?

My dad was a part time forecourt attendant (how many remember them?) early 70's, there was a choice of 2,3,4 or 5 star and hand pumps for 2 stroke oil and Redex.

yea that 2 stroke dispenser was a con. 30 pence a shot u turned the pump dial from 20 to one and 50 to one depending on the mix but still paid the same price for half the amount of oil so if u wanted 50 to one in a gallon it was cheaper to get one shot of 25 to one in 2 gallons .robbin sods

The local hardware store had a coin operated paraffin dispenser outside for when the shop was shut, imagine the fun the kids would have with that today!.

If I remember correctly, insert the coin, twist the handle and pull it, the glass cylinder would fill, then when the handle was released the paraffin was dispensed down a tube into your container.

Remember them well, now I think paraffin is about the same price as petrol, it's no longer worth trying to get the car to run on it, but about '69-'70 there was a chip machine in Stroud. You put 1shilling (5p) in the slot, there was a lot of whiring & sizzling sound from inside & about 2 minutes later out came a portion of chips. Really good chips too. When I've told people about this they don't believe me, think I'm taking the urine. Though just before Christmas someone said to me "remember the chip machine, I've found out how it worked on the web" so I know I'm not going daft (dafter)
