Tig brazing question???

Sorry I'm being a thick numpty today but........

When using oxy/ace for brazing you use a flux to clean the surface, do you still use the same flux when Tig brazing, if not how do you clean the metals surface and with what????

I can't seem to find the answer anywhere, help please.....

No flux. Just clean as you would for TIG. Lower amps than for steel rod.

And dont use filler rods ment for gas.

the tig filler rods aint cheap

Sit down for the price as i bought a pack a few weeks back.

Thanks guys, just needed to check if any flux was used.
I need them to repair a crack in a diesel fuel tank on a single cylinder kubota engine.

I've seen the price of the rods Weldequip will be recieving my investment when the time comes. He seems to be the cheapest.

where is a good place in the uk to buy them ? Going to the US is not viable, you will end up paying 3 times more than what the rods are worth, after you have paid postage charges, import handling tax and VAT. ie: £10 for rods, £26 for postage, £8 handling charge, £2 VAT

Can i ask, don't you have to be sure they are not for gas use and will definitely be for TIG based brazing. Very few of the rods i see specifically state that they are for tig brazing use. ??

The problem is that it appears that "Tig Brazing Rods" can also be used for normal (oxy/ace) gas brazing as well, you just have to use flux.

Which is why I asked my original question as I found it a bit misleading, there appears to be a cross over of brazing rods one way.

I believe gas brazing rods contain zinc, whick boils off with tig....

and yes afaik tig rods are fine for gas, just not the other way round

Some of the various flavours of TIG brazing wires can be used to weld copper alloys of similar composition with oxyfuel or TIG. They are very different to gas brazing rods... for one thing the melting temp is ~150°C or so higher so you'd burn the flux

As said oxyfuel brazing filler has lots of zinc in it which'll make a right mess with TIG, even worse if they're the flux coated variety.
SIF 968 is silicon copper and the 'brand free' designation is C9, CuSi3. The other usual suspect for TIG brazing is phosphor bronze C11, CuSn7 which is #8 in SIF speak. There are also a couple of different aluminium bronzes

That is a good point. The person who recommended me them was an experienced welder, and knew i was using tig, so ill go back and ask them what their reasoning was.

I got my rods from United Welding 1 kg pack , not bad a price as I recall I have C11 and C9

I would like to try the tig brazing for automotive bodywork repairs. Which rod and diameter will you suggest?
I will buy it from UK, I am from Spain and to get it form the USA is also very expensive...
