Shipping engine parts.

Ive seen a few fairly large items being sold in here so thought I might get some tips.

Im soon to put some engine parts on ebay, including a cylinder head. Now I've never had to send anything like that before.
Can you still use the likes of parcel force?
Ant tips in packaging etc?

easy way i do it is let buyer sort courier never had prob that way.
just make sure its well wrapped.
sold bits through landy forum that way as well.

Easier maybe but you get a better price if you offer the courier bit as well.

There are lots of options & which is best will depend on the size & weight of the item & if you have some one at home for the courier to pick it up from or if you need to use a drop off service.

I always use www.parcel2go.com and never had a problem either sending or getting collected

if you sell on ebay you can get parcelforce to ship the item upto 30kg for 11.99 on a 48hr deal and 13.19 for 24hr, thats what i use

you can pay by card on the parcel force website.

you can have collection or drop off at post office and also collect at po or delivered.

just put in the post coseds ,sizes and weight and type of service

i use myhermese for most of my parcels as I can drop off at a local shop an dont have to wait in all day for the collection if they cant take it then i use parcel2go.com

if its oily wrap in plastic then box it up
i have been known to use off cuts of carpet and foam underlay to protect things in transit

I'm a fan of My Hermes, if there's no parcel shop convenient, you can designate a safe place to leave it for collection.
Just check the size is okay.

Unlike a lot of the carriers they have a set size limit and set prices. None of this volumetric weight nonsense.


If its too big for Hermes, I use parcel force, booked over the web.


No problems with either service.

A friend uses Paisley Parcels (or something like that), they specialise in wheels, tyres, bicycles, kayaks etc., seem pretty reasonable on price.

and not precise I had the flywheel and clutch sent to me I arranged the delivery from my end he said it was about 15 kg so used the up to 15kg it was closer to 18kg !! no probs nothing was mentioned

parcelmonkey.co.uk or parcel2go as already mentioned. Royal mail direct is much more expensive, and when you book the parcel monkey collection, the same person comes to collect your parcel anyway!

i am the guru when it comes to postage, if its 5 kilos or less, its collect+ at a cost of £6 and you take it to the local participating corner shop, if its 5 to 30 kilos then its parcelforce at 11.99 for economy and £13.19 nextday, ive sent a set of alloys with tyres as 2 packages and take them at the local postoffice (they pass them on to parcelforce),these are both via ebay, if you have larger i can quote pallet prices, if you need any help, im happy to help

Been involved with my Hermes twice as someone waiting for a parcel - both times they took a week to admit they'd lost it... On that basis I can't really recommend them

Don't forget Collect+ 5-10Kg @ £8.29 and they've just increased the parcel size they will carry.
