Cider with ice!!

I'd just like to say, whoever started this whole thing where its supposed to be 'cool' to sup Magners cider with ice cubes, should be horsewhipped.
I mean, why did nobody in the marketing department notice that ice is made of water, and water makes beer drinks go flatter than a titches wit in ten seconds flat.? Could it be because nobody there drinks the damn stuff I wonder ?

If your gonna drink cider, you might as well drink Scrumpy Jack. A good drink for the summer and 6% proof. But definitely without ice!!

Magners is pretty good though i must admit. But its fashionable, so the price is sky high.

I do like the bottled ciders but not with ice. Anyone got a Lidl near them, (probably everyone on here ) try the 'churchwards' stuff, brewed by 'the devon cider co', quite nice and only £1.29 for a pint bottle. If you're talking draft ciders then it's Stowford Press for me anytime! (I'm sat here typing this and swigging on a pint of Blackthorn at the mo, not my fave but Mrs W got it )

Hehe, very basic recipe but hey, if it works?

That lot was made this time last year, think there's still a few bottles of it kicking around somewhere.

It tasted suprisingly good! I did it the lazy/cheap way - 2 tsp breadmaking yeast, 1kg normal sugar, then only decanted (is that the word?) it once into the bottles. So by the time you get to the bottom of a 2ltr bottle the yeast gets unsettled and mixed back in again (not that you notice by this stage )


In general it tastes like apple juice with a hint of bread. Has the ability to get you very drunk, at around 60p/litre aswell

I also made some "bargain booze lager" which involves slightly more effort but is unbeliably cheap, it's 24l of tap water then a £6 tin of the hops etc mix stuff and 1kg sugar
Works out under 20p a pint excluding the equipment (bucket, funnel, spoon, hose)

The lager tasted pretty good too! Quite watery but that's how I like them, tasted slightly better than tennents, hopefully slightly stronger and a LOT cheaper

Merrydown or Brother pear cider, both over 7.5% and the merrydown is brewed champagne yeast, so a litre bottle (£1.69) really does go straight to ones head.

and the only time ice should be required is when your skint and only got the pennies for a pint

westons organic cider is lovely!

magners/ bulmers are overrated in my opinion although they're readily available...

ice is always a loser... dilutes your pint and melts resulting in you having to drink 1.5 pints to get 1 pint worth of alcohol. plus it makes drinking difficult as it restricts flow into your mouth and also hurts your teeth!

old rosie is good, and powerful!
has anyone tried that 'jacques' stuff? cost about £7 per bottle for what is essentially cider and black (strongbow)

i think that strongbow is a brilliant all rounder... good taste, good alcohol content, good price, available almost everywhere...

i hate going into a pub to find that they only have blackthorn. thats frustrating.

i find that i get a nicer pint in the summer when more people are on the cider, must be something to do with the age of the barrel or something.
