1992 Honda Delsol

Hey guys, thought I would start a thread on here as I'm going to attempt to fix my rusty arches.

Anyway I bought this car to get back and forth to work, while my partner used my other car. I've owned it for a year or so now.. Right enough chit chat. Ill let you see the rust!

Rust on passenger side wind screen pillar.
This is what has been making a puddle in the foot well..

The boot, I don't quite know what I'm going to do here.. Maybe plate over it? I wouldn't trust myself cutting the chassis...

Someone has obviously attempted to sort the rust before but wasn't successful.

Hole in drivers side rear arch.

Passenger side arch. I put some Kurst anti rust on it, but it started to rain so it didn't take effect.. :/

As the cars now locked away in my garage I was going to begin cutting the rust out..

Just need to find my angle grinder and discs..

Feel free to give me your advise, I will hopefully start getting some progress on this thing!!

if you want any repair to last don't plate over anything, cut it out fit a new section in and weld up, no overlaps

The boot doesn't look bad. Clean the surface rust so you can see what needs replacing. It's not really the chassis per se; it's far enough away from any suspension or steering to not be an issue so should be straightforward - a good place to start while you get to grips with it (Also handy that any untidy welds won't ruin the look of the car...)

Practice the thin metal technique and it's actually a P.O.P. Should be able to work out the acronym

one of the first things to sort would be where is the water getting into the boot and are the drainage holes blocked

Okay how would you go around doing the boot? I will try get a better picture from underneath.

clean the boot up with a flap disc or similar to see what you are left with, cut out the bad stuff and away you go

Flap discs are cool but car take off a lot of material, especially with a brand new one. I'd try first with a paint strip disc so not as to unduly thin out the metal should you need to be welding in there. Weldequip sells them for £5.50 each.

Even if you aren't up to the task of replicating the shapes in the boot floor, just make a cardboard template and do it in bits.

Okay, the boots slightly curved to fit the spare wheel. which worried me as I'm not the best fabricator haha.

As for the drainage holes, I have cleaned them out but still having a leak, I spoke to Honda and they said it could be the rubber around the boot. I've replaced that and it still leaks.. It's the manual roof, not the transtop model. I've spoken to a few members on the Delsol forum but they just suggested the drainage holes so I'm clueless maybe it was meant to be a fish tank?

Ill hopefully have a welder by next week or so, I was going to do a few practice runs on a old car door I have.. As this will be my first restoration.

I don't think I'm going to attempt to fab my own rear arches I will just buy the pair from Honda dealers lol

rear quarters from honda are about 400 each. you cant just buy a atch repair panel and to be honest id be suprised if the quarters arnt discontinued now anyway. you can pick up 92-95 civic arch repair panels for about 20 quid a side and with a bit of fiddling they will fit.

Ive used www.carz2.co.uk before and theywere ok.

You want the ones for a hatchback, obviously the rear light section/fuel filler part is wrong but the arch profile is right

what model honda do you have if you don't mind me asking.

No problems. Its the 92-95 2 door hatchback you want.

I have several. 95 civic. 03 civic type-r and an integra type-r

There nothing special to be honest civic type-r is my daily so pretty much standard
95 civic is an lsi which im putting a b16a2 in for some trackdays.
The DC2 is pretty much a bare shell which needs to much work and will probably end up getting scrapped in a few years

Yeh that civics seen better days. I would like to pull the k20 out of mine and put it in something lighter but i really cant be bothered to break the car ! Done it to many times and just cant be bothered anymore. If you have any bits of the civic left over though send me a pm and let me know !

Not much to report today, wired and fit some more plug sockets and lights into my garage.. But one of the starters has broke I think on the rear fluorescent tube light.

Fit a light in the loft of the garage and two fans..

Tell me what you think? I know the space is alittle small.. But hey I'll have to live with it
