Still easier to stick a standard 15Kg.spool on though! (mind you, marine ply, hand varnished & a gold embossed P... hmmm.... ££££ 
Yeah tis a problem with low usage, wherever you are... you've only gotta take it out of the box & it starts going 'off' 
That then leads to all kinds of annoying feed problems

Steve, Is it literally just a spacer? I cut a bit of drain pipe about 2 inches wide, but it looks like the roll is turning on the plastic threads of the spool holder. Is this ok or will it damage them?

The 5Kg.reel should be at the back of the reel holder, not on the reel holder threads. The idea of the spacer is to keep the 5kg.reel located on the peg at the back of the reel holder. Stick the 5Kg.wire reel on first, making sure the hole in the plastic reel goes on the spool holder peg, put your spacer on & tighten up the red plastic nut on the threads up to the spacer.

Steve, in all my years I've never really worked out what the peg and hole are for.
I assume it's to stop wire overrrun, but with the exception of my NBC set, where you can adjust the friction on the holder, i've never seen a hobby/small ind'l mig where it made any difference.

why not get an old 5kg roll and cut it down to form a spacer? or is that to easy?

Yeah, so.....things to be careful of when using 'biodiesels'.
Plastic fuel tanks don't necessarily like it, they can blister.
Some nylon fuel lines don't like it, nylon6 I think. Nylon12 is OK. Most new-ish vehicles should be OK. Nylon6 goes soft.
Cheaper rubbers go all nasty gooey and soft.
Storage - bioD has an affinity for water and if stored in large tanks for long periods, you can get bacterial growth which can go on to produce acid residues.
Lots of the enthusiastic home brewers never mention some of this stuff.
'Growing' biodiesel isn't right, I don't think, unless you can use some plant that will grow in deserts or sumfin. Much better to use the waste from Ronald MacDonald et al.

Hybred Grasses perchance, very resistant to drought and nearly 50% more efficiant than wheat ethenol, also GM crops are far less input intensive and require much less energy to grow..
Nearly all the waste cooking been reused for about 20 years going to various sources its nothing new,Its worth decent money.
Oh and become a vegie if you want to save the planet..

Twas a good thread hijack,thought id talk to weldquip for a while about shims as it gets tiring trying to save the planet and its inhabitants all the time.Raising awareness to the cons that surround us.Growing bio fuel isnt the answer anymore,and there isnt enough waste fast food oil available to meet the needs of a fuel driven planet.So grow it they will and when they cant grow enough they will bring back the GM crops that for now have only been grown in Africa,India and the Easten block.To produce more fuel per acre,still not the answer.Consumer choice is the key........Any other thoughts on water[Hydrogen-Oxygen]Was tested by Jeremy on Top Gear.And at the motor show in Japan this year..........

So whats the problem with GM Crops then? Much of people's reaction to them has been bought about by the main stream press, The structure of arable crops has actualy been changed since man changed from hunter gather, New strains of crops come out year on year and are pushed to become more productive and more disese resistant just the same as garden plants are made to flower ever brighter and stronger.. GM is simply a way of changeing the structure to become resistant to one chemical, Glyphostate which is compleatly harmless to humans and animals as the only activity it has is stoping cell division in the plant.. It simply means the crop is very cheep to grow..I could talk in length about the negetive implications of organic and the mith's of so called "healthy food" but thats a topic witin itself. Africa, Easten Bloc and India actualy are not main stream produces of GM crops, Although the benifits to Africa would be huge especialy developing drought resistance strains of plants, America and Australia are the main producers and chance's are your soya maize is produced form GM.
No growing is not a solution to a pending global problem, its part of it, Hydrogen if they get it to work is still dependent on biomass ie a crop of sorts to be energy efficiant,
When I was lectured by Ben Gill a couple of years back, His opinion was very much that the whole structure of countries was to change, Which was things like houses which didnt require huge amounts of energy to heat them, Biomass projects localy so the best fuel source localy can be used for heat and ellectric, Less travel, and in season local food, which is not wasted.. The subject is huge but is a ticking bomb, No govement will care until there landed with the problem.. But dont think that any one solution will come along to replace fosil fuels.

Im not sucked in by the properganda, I know the huge amount of R & D that has to go into developing new chemicals, Most of the negative points about Glyphosate has been writen by the Soil Asociation and freinds of the Earth....properganda?.. Actualy Its the "weters" that can be mixed with the product that are harmfull to aquatics, Glyphosate is actualy often used in waterways by the E,A and other bodys it is a very efective way of controling introduced weed problems like fairy moss which overwise destroy all the marine life within a body of water..
Agent orange was designed for one job, Roundup another, The Right's and wrongs of this are not an argument, These huge companys are also make drugs for cancer treatments, Heart drugs etc... If we Really dont trust the science then maybe we could go back to living in caves and dieing at 30.. Science creates good and bad.
So your saying that if we are not to use Roundup, then theres no agrochemical use, Wrong, again you can not turn back the clock Agrochemical use creates the food that is on the table, Organic is simply niche, The worldwide population simply canot be fed, Imagine 75% of the worlds food being removed overnight.. And if you like wide use of copper sulphate and nicotine on your food because its natural then id recomend it.

Glyphosate has been proved to cause lymphatic cancer,yes the wetting agents are dodgy.The fact that the EA,wildlife trusts,RSPB,Woodland Trust and many others use it doesnt make it ok.It is the almighty dollar that drives the use.This is why all other chemicals are going.EG.Rootout which degrades into nitrogen.Forced out by ethics.Gm seeds are also sterile which makes farmers dependent on the seed companies,this has already caused huge levels of poverty and suicide in the growing of GM rice in India.The loss of freedom to plant your own seed is Economic slavery.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Of course non sterile GM crops could mutate, and turn into man eating triffids, well perhaps thats over reacting. But it is more than possible that GM crops can mutate into something slightly different from the original design and cause possible problems, perhaps not economic slavery but more airing on the side of caution
The truth is know one knows,GM is untested long term,Hybrids are different and are part of the natural cycle with man speeding the process.GMs cant happen naturally.Therefore they cant support local wild life and will therefore cause imbalance.Economic slavery is a fact and when everyone is hooked on modern biofuel the prices will rise to the same levels as crude oil because its controlled by the same multinationals .
