Buying from China on the Bay?

I have seen some linear bearing sets on the bay at a price I can afford,trouble is they are in China,will I cop customs charges? Also has anyone else bought from china without problems,even with p&p they are min50% cheaper than I can find anywhere else,cheers for reading,

i just bought a welding auto lenze from china it was only 12 quid inc delivery i think that was £2,50p it came within a few weeks i dont know if u will get stung import for anything dearer

I think it all depends on the value doesn't it? I've only ever bought really cheap stuff from China and have never had any issues.
Stuff normally arrives fairly quickly too.

I have never paid customs from china, been stung many times from USA, don't think they bother much from china, as them to out on customs form it is gift or sample

Anything over £18 including the cost of shipping, will attract Duty at the current GATT agreement rate and VAT on top.

Labeling is as sample/gift etc will NOT work.

I've had things over £18 and never been stung yet normally the value is declared low by the seller (Probily there true valve any way!)

Hasnt everyone, including myself. I used to import, so know the costs involved

I had a £35 package and got charged about £6 before they would deliver at the UK end. I think it is hit or miss whether you are charged duty or not.

ive had lots of stuff and sellers mark it down as a low value gift...ask them if they can do that before buying

I've bought stuff loads of times and never had a problem. It may depend on the type of goods as well because some of my stuff had a value over £100.

I bought some Wii remotes on ebay. I basically bought 2 remotes and 2 nunchucks for the cost of one in the UK.

I can only assume they come out the back door in the official factory as I can't tell them apart.

I didn't get charged any duty.

If you're paying the right price to begin with, it doesn't really matter if you're paying duty anyway really, as long as you factor it into your cost.

I've bought from both China and the US, never had to pay any duty from the Chinese stuff but always get clobbered when it's from the US. I think it's all down to the Chinese not being that accurate with the parcels value.

I think its more to do with our trade regulations with china versus the states. I hate buying from the states anyway, they really don't understand sending things abroad in my experience and act like you're being really awkward needing things delivered, as if you really ought not to be buying from them if you can't come to Moronville ohio to collect it, and then when it finally arrives, you always get hit for duty, then vat on the goods AND the outrageous postal charges. Last resort for me every time. The Chinese on the other hand understand that all their customers are abroad and act accordingly.

I get stuff from the states, but usually get my brother in SF to repackage it. Less attractive to customs as without a Co logo on it. Got caned for a set of boat plans direct from the designer. Tax plus VAT, added around 30%.

+1 with whats been said i get shafted every time from the US but never with stuff from china.
