My ford Granada restro

Hi all


I'm Adam iv added a picture of my Granada as requested from afew of you lovely people. and its a thanks for helping me discover the problem with my plasma cutter.

the Car is a work is progress its going to take a while but it have pritty much all the metal to get the car back on the road. its a rare 4x4 2.9 car from factory as 100 thousand miles on the clock and the service history goes up to i think 89thousand probably unheard of for a Granada.

my brother wants me to change it to gun metal gray or mat black

im a little dubious of these colours , to be honest i have no idea it has crossed my mind but i don't know what.

But what i have thought of was putting a 1jz engine and drive train into the old girl and make it a wolf in sheeps clothing

matt black is a terrible colour for a car infact matt anything is, is your brother insane
anything matt and the dirt sticks, it marks easily and doesnt wash too good.
if you want to it to be worth anything then restore it to mint condition

i didnt notice the matt black, its only suitable for hotrods nothing else.

although i did see a beetle years back in matt blue that looked stunning called the rodfather bug, it wasnt very hot rod looking at all just the colour!

go for a nice gun metal or raven black always looks top notch on granadas

when i use to drive this the new ages kids had no idea what car this was all they new it was comfy

it was only a thought to ditch the cologne v6

I used to have a few V6 Capris (so the old Cologe 2.8 V6, similar but some key differences that were improved on the 2.9). Last one I had was a Turbo Technics, arguably the best way to tune these engines as, as far as I could tell from magazines at the time, many naturally aspirated mods led to little increase in power, in fact often a decrease.

Trouble is, it it's like the Siera XR4x4 (V6 not the later, rather pony, 2l dohc one) - the front diff is integrated into the sump.

Only real problem with these engines is the weight, I reckon they're heavier than an iron Chevy small block.

trouble is the TT kits are few and far between and are prob ragged to hell

and the thought arrived from a 1jz engine as someone had shoe horned one into a sierra , so i thought ahh fit it into a Granada but its a long way off yet

I've got a soft spot for old grannies too: The colour of yours brings back fond memories of my aunties 2.8 Ghia...

Didn't know what a 1jz was, but had a peep on wiki and now very interested. {whisper} I've been toying with the idea of a swap from my beloveded 'Essex' with something that will not break me financially every time it starts up. So it's nice to some of the options...{/whisper}

o yes these cars are lovely old barges its a shame the body work rusts away.

yes the 1jz is a long engine straight 6 2.5 petrol from a toyota , trouble is the engine is only matted to a auto box

So its either get a bellhousing adaptor plate fitted for the m75 gearbox currently fitted in the car but then that throws up heeps of other problems such as first motion shaft wont fit. and custom flywheel and custom clutch assembly. the gearbox is good for 300 bhp standard internals apparently..... so should easlily take the standard 276bhp from the 2.5 petrol twin turbo 1jz engine.

Dropped a manual into my granny a few years back: pointless with the torque as I would generally pull away in 4th and stay there..
Ideally I would like to find a lump that will sit at 70mph @1000 rpm that'll sip fuel through a pipette.

its a 4 wheel drive manual my friend from factory

not many of these of style 4x4 grannies are around so its a proper wolf in sheeps clothing it handles like a rally car somtimes when i use to drive it when i stole it

!!!!a massive problem!!!

. i live in a culdesac with a front lawn which isnt owned by me (council) i put my Granada back on there the other day to start work on it , had environmental health on my back as soon as my nabour saw me put it on there and they where going to slap a massive sticker on the front of it to remove it! , then i had my nabour start her whining about it. so now i have had to resort to getting a local welder to do the work in his workshop. i'm not happy!!!

I'll let you know of the outcome if i can get the old girl sorted

at 70mph if i rightly remember it did tick over just 1500rpm im sure of it.

once its back on the road and im driving it i'll see if it did.....

i have just been qouted

600 quid to do the all the welding on the car , its a far old amount of work that needs to be done so i thought it was a fair price

itl be worth it if you keep the original engine in it!!

and spot you can go of people really quickly on here!! stick a windsor v8 on lpg, T5g i think accepts v8s no problems... you know you want to

yeh should fit no problem in the bay the v8 was in the sierra pritty much the same floor pan theres a v8 in the sierra xr8 in oz so its gotta fit!

its all thoughts no action just yet gonna concentrate on fixing the beast first

i have been a busy bunny today

i removed my subframe ready for refurb tomorrow only had taken me 3 hours to remove

some welding is needed for the bumper supports , but its only small jobs I think i can get away without side my home

I don't really want to have environmental health on my case again

look at the state of that bush totally past it the other side is no better

i'll update once i have taken it all to bits tomorrow
