Appreciate the point that you make, but I don't think "garbage in garbage out" is the correct concept. After all, I have eaten really good quality, nutritious and healthy meals and also enjoyed the odd bit of junk, fast food. On every occasion what came out was only suitable for one thing ... flushing down the toilet.

that was not exactly what I meant, the garbage in is poor quality cheap ingredients and the garbage out is a poor quality tasteless burger or whatever, nothing to do with the digestive process. I don't do much shopping but I doubt if you could buy good quality ingredients to make it at home for the price they charge?

Apparently the less sleep you get, the more you crave junk food (high salt, high fat). I don't get great sleep... but to be perfectly honest, I'd rather have McDs or Burger King than the food some of my friends cook. Apricot Chicken Pasta? What the fu...

My wife's a great cook and I love to cook when I have time. My fav at the moment is a shoulder of pork slowly cooked on the Webber BBQ, in fact anything cooked on the BBQ seems delicious but probably as bad if not worse than McDs.

And as Jamie Oliver, Hugh Fernley Whittingstal and so on point out, if you're going to eat an animal, do it the honour of eating as much of it as possible. I don't eat tongue, tripe, kidneys or sweetbreads but the rest is up for grabs.

Getting hungry now...

Actually not, the large chains are very particular on the sources of there ingredients, when they say its 100% beef it is, even secondary ingredients such as there Veg oils are a special strain known as Hielic are grown on contracts so strict that other variates of OSR cannot be grown with 500 yards of there crops to prevent cross pollination.


There food has very strict hygiene levels including things like max amounts of time cooked food can be kept and every restaurant has to follow the exact same codes.

I am not a great fan, but there sourcing of British produce and the levels of hygiene are far far better than most establishments. including many Pubs.

Burgers can be food of the gods or dogs depends on how they are made cooked.
Favourite meal of my life? might be a burger at the end of Garnet Avenue San Diego, good food and a great spot.
Maccy D's? tried it twice and could not see the point.

I was one of a team of lads who installed a set of conveyors in the plant in dublin which made the "burgers" for burger king, i'd rather go hungry than eat one of those horrible things, or go and buy a loaf of bread and some cooked ham or something.

All food has its bad press. I would not eat at McD's but have been known to partake in a BK. Prefer real burger company however. At home I make burgers, just best quality mince, salt and pepper.

Anyone here eat cornedbeef? Know a fella that studied biology at uni and became a teacher. He introduced me to one of the Profs from his course on a night out, we stopped somewhere to eat something as much drinking was being done and more was to come. Was quite a bit of discussion among the group as to what was safe, what was not, the consesus was that if it was fried you would be unlikely to die, but I digress.

A few years before, a colleague - another biologist - had been eating a cornedbeef sandwich and looket at the meat. He could identify meat, gristle, fat and other bits, but their was one bit he could not think of what it was, so he asked the Prof to take a look at it.

After a good look under a microscope, it was clear it was a bit of rat intestine. Being the canny Prof he was, he contacted the importer and so the production company and suggested he visit the plant they make the corned beef at in a South American country. Expenses paid and consultancy fee of course.

He was there for a couple of weeks and did not see a rat or sign of one. To start with he had only been putting a couple of hours a day in at the factory as he thought he would be able to make a lot of suggestions on improvements - he was wrong, the facility was hygenic, had a decent level of security against vermin for a third world country and he could not get his head around it. In the second week, rather than partying late into the night he put a lot more hours in at the factory - still nothing.

On the second last day, he decided he would do a shift from lights on until lights off at the place. Bingo - the rats were getting in through the ceiling, coming down pipes and machines and into the large vessels where cow parts were turned into corned beef - with the machines turned off, the rats could feed as they pleased as the vessels had no covers on them.

When Jose turned the lights on and then the machines in the morning, the days batch was fortified with ratty goodness.

The company changed its procedures to covers the vessels overnight at hat factory and the others they owned and the local government made it so that others did, but other parts of the country did not do the same.

Yum yum yum.

I think theres very little processed food that you would eat if you actually knew the industrial scale and the animal parts that were used within the process, Ham is a particular bad offender..... but then again its ethically better to use the whole animal than simply kill and waste the rest.

Most people are completely removed from the food chain these days a believe that meat comes packaged from tescos, food is produced cheaper and more industrially than it ever has, and consumers dictate that.

Burger chains are not triable offenders, and there food is better produced than much of the processed food available on a supermarket shelf. I know for a fact that the golden arches source as much produce as possible from the UK, I am one of there producers, The same cannot be said for large supermarkets, who import over 50% of meat from places such as Eastern Europe and the far east, to no welfare standards.

Surely you mean that wafer thin sqaure shaped stuff that comes in boxes of the same shape rather than a wet or dry cured back leg?

Makes me laugh that people buy sausages with collegen casings because they do not want to eat 'pig guts' but happily shovel squre ham in, people who do not eat kidney as 'eeeuurgh, its had pee in it' (but you happily eat the meat that made the pee) and so on. I have hard time myself eating glands of animals, the dogs can have them, but anything else, serve it up to me on my plate looking like it is the thing that it is rather than mincing it up, mixing it with colourings and flavourings and telling me it something else.

i love it that british and irish people are ignorant about eating whatever parts of whatever animal

i get to eat the cheaper cuts,for half the price,with twice the flavour.

i dont eat maccy d's.but its because of how quickly the food goes from being frozen to being on your tray.not the actual beef.


as for chinese takeaways....2 reasons i dont get food there.

firstly,a friend runs a pest control business.chinese kitchens are putting his kids through college

and what put the final nail in the coffin,my dad was carrying out repairs/inspecting a roof of a chinese.had to get access through the kitchen.on his life,he swears there were two greyhounds in the freezer.

Corned beef never tried it and never will, smells/looks horrible. Bit like marmite.

Nothing like a good old fresh chicken sandwich cooked properly, i use to do chef work years ago.

I do prefer home style cooked burgers/sandwiches etc. Sub way are so S***, never eating in there again. Although my favorite is KFC and will have the odd Mackie D's from time to time, big mac sauce is lovely.

Nothing like eating proper good healthy food but isn't always possible.
