my mk5 cortina estate

hi guys, long time lurker but first time poster thought i'd share some pics of my mk5 cortina. this as been in my family since it was 3 years old having been a company car for rolls royce in derby. i've restored it once before during 2000/2002 working outside but by 2010 with 350,000 miles covered it was getting untidy so i fitted new front wings, bonnet and front valance and painted them in 2 pack

then by late last year i decided to change the n/s inner and outer sills but the floor was also a bit ragged so using a panel cut from a scrap car years ago i made a rough copy[/ATTACH][/ATTACH][/ATTACH]

i also made the inner sill. i'd also managed to get hold of a n/s door post panel so decided to make a copy for the offside, it's a bit rough but will be painted in stonechip so should be ok

Nice panel making! Was it done via the Thai VW restorers method, bash it out on a bit of angle iron/ anvil???

That must be one of the last of the mark 5's surviving, the banger racing boys have destroyed the rest.

hi thanks for the comments guys, no i dont make panels for a living i'm too slow LOL! i'm a postman! it's quite easy to do if you take your time and think it through. the inner door post i made by laying a piece of polythene over it and marking all the details then punching holes through it and going over the holes with a marker pen. then just beat it out! easy but time consuming

back again, not much done (again) started to form the bulkhead but couldn't get it to curve properly so cut up a m12 bolt to create a former. not perfect but it'll do[/ATTACH][/ATTACH]

Great work Ian, thats some of the best backyard fab i`ve seen in years, its up to the quality you see the indians and malasians pump out for their repair work and that is usually first class. Your an inspiration to all us bodgers mate.
