Transit mk5 diesel and lez

Got an mot on my old mk5 (1999)transit last week ....didn't realise until the tester was saying ,it would cost £200 a day to drive it in London from 2012?....only 02 registered or newer will pass the emissions criteria, set to be enforced.Luckily won't affect me .....YET
Will we see lots of non compliant vans being sold or scrapped?..even the tester said the newer engines were less reliable with numerous faults etc on the transits.......I would think its "greener" to keep older vehicles on the road as long as they pass an mot... rather everyone scrapping vans and buying newer models, as the disposal of the old van and manufacture of a new vehicle contributes more to the overall emissions globally than to keep running an already built van....I can imagine lots of builders,plumbers etc not being happy with the changes....my testers old camper being a casualty.....anyone here affected? how long before its adopted by Manchester /Bristol etc?

nope... but the only effect i can see is rates for london going up £200 a day..... they are just taking the **** now

didn't konw it applyed to Vans thorght it was wagons and buses my van is euro 4 so should be ok for a while!

I had read a while back that they were going to enforce this in the next few years didnt realise it came round so soon!

I might be in the market for a new (old) transit then lol

its going to affect a lot of vehicles, can even affect 4x4s depending on what they are registered as...

personally wouldnt recommend a mk6 transit, when the engines go wrong it costs mega bucks to replace, same with diesel fuel pump, gearbox etc. worth test driving some alternatives...

Cost is around 1500-2000 for a diesel particulate filter to keep your pre-2002 vans on the road in London, and then this needs an annual inspection/test!

Some Land Rovers have been effectively banned (unless you pay!) noticed in the for sale sections "LEZ compliant" in some ad's.

have done a few bits of electrical work and welding for a firm making active carbon filter that fit into truck exhaust systems to make them lez compliment

The DP filters at 1500-2000 pound a go, from authorised suppliers only... amazingly I see no way that you can become exempt by reducing the emissions to the same levels yourself (yes there are ways). So you have to wonder if its really about cleaning up the air or just about revenue...

Still at £2000 for the filter / 365 days becomes £5.50 a day and thats assuming they only last a year... suppose that is not a great overhead for most companies running vans in London. But its the people with horse boxes, campers, land rovers etc. that are going to suffer from this the most. I only hope this kind of scheme doesnt spread to other cities.

I've read some LR owners have managed to get their vehicles re-classified by DVLA depending on seating configuration/body type to avoid the LEZ charges

a friend hasjust sold his 52 reg mk6 transit, not soley because of the lez but it was one factor, it wasnt registered as being Euro3, even thouhg the mechanical spec of the van was identical to one that was euro 3 compliant on an 03 plate.

baffling, he's now looking for some kind of large estate or 4x4 !

Progress....Mk5 transit owners are removing diesel engines and replacing with pinto petrol engines

He should've done some more research, the mk6 is euro 3, think you just have to fill in a form to get the 2000-2002 transits down as euro 3

if your diesel vehicle was registered before 1st october 2001 then it doesnt meet the current standards
from 3 jan 2012 if your vehicle was registered before 1st october 2006 then they wont meet the new standards either only vehicles registered 1st october 2006

you will be a year late and will have been fine 1500 quid

all the cameras are ANPR in london so there is no escape if you drive in and havnt registered and paid the daily charge you get a fine of 1500 quid

hundreds will get caught out i very nearly did but lucklily for me they had postponed the launch when i drove into london

My van is 51 plate , at first I thought it was not going to be compliant , but having checked again it is compliant , try the VOSA web site type in the reg and it will tell you if its any good or not !
