TIG rod steady?

While looking for Rods, I came across this device on fleabay. might be handy for people who find it hard to feed the rod.

Bit more than that, it has holes drilled in it so the wire can slide.

Lets hope it is heat resistant. Welding Cu could otherwise result in some interesting results

Why would it need to be heat resistant? How hot is it going to get?
As it's on your finger, I would say your finger is going feel the heat way before it suffers any damage.

Personally I can see no end of problems with this, you have very little control over positioning of the wire feed and no feel of the wire going into the weld pool, can't see how it would work on pipe where you have to constantly change feed angles etc.
I also wonder how long it will be before someone forgets they have a length of wire attached to the end of their finger and stabs themselves with a hot filler wire.
If you struggle to feed wire through your fingers try cutting the lengths of wire in half to start with, it really does make things a lot easier

Think the £5 is more of a joke and not intended to be serious but its a good idea. I carnt feed rod but I manage. The Tig pens seem a good idea but there up £40 or so. BUT I manage in my own little way.

Never needed anything like that, just practice and you will get it fairly quickly and be a fiver better off

I weld stainless and ally with it , it has never melted as it is silicone and extremely heat resistant. I have used the same one for 3 yrs! The controll and dexterity it allows for is amazing. I would love to send one of you guys one to try and get some more feedback.

Interesting, as I said in the opening post, I found this, while cruising Fleabay, I have my own opinion but thought I would post up the link here and stand back. Interesting that a few members who appear to have been welding for sometime, fail to understand it's hard enough to old the torch still never mind having to, feed the rod, and move at the same time, when fist learning to master TIG, that a little help from something like this would ease the path to righteousness.

And.. for a fiver, it's 35quid less than the nearest gizmo on the market. I like it just for that

My initial comments may have seemed a little harsh and I apologise but remember those of us who have been welding donkeys years were all complete novices without a clue in the beginning, all we can do is pass on hints and tips that we used when we were learning.
Devices like these and TIG pens etc can be a good gadget for those who are maybe only going to be welding once in a while, but if you want to get the most from your welding you are better starting the correct way and mastering the techniques otherwise you can start to pick up bad habits which become hard to break
