Recommend me a Trolley Jack

It’s over 40 years since I bought my first trolley jack; a Sealey ‘Viking’ 1.25tonne, which still works like new (light DIY use on my cars).

I need another trolley jack and Sealey’s entry level 1050CX Trolley Jack 2 tonne Short Chassis (for a little over £50) seems to fit the bill. Anyone have anything to say about that, or any other make/model on offer?

I’m not sure that Sealey stuff is as good as they used to be, but I doubt that I’ll be around long enough to get another 40 years service out of anything

Personally I would spend the extra to get one that lowers when you turn the handle. I am very tight but definitely consider that worth the extra money. Makes life so much easier

no i dont like those , theyre very narrow and ive had one tipple on me

£100 ish should get you one with a wider set of wheels and handle lowering

this is the one i have, great little jack and very light but max height can be an issue on taller vehicles

I have had one of these Clarke 3-tonne jacks for around fifteen years. Still good. Bit heavy, though, when persuading it over rough ground.

I always used to have Weber jacks and nothing else - but when I went to buy one - they all look the same as Sealey ones - there must only be one trolley jack factory in China now and everybody just puts stickers on the same jacks and upsell charge more for named makes.

Me too, but I do have to move them between buildings.

I agree, and also has a foot pedal to quickly pump it up.

What entry height do you need?

Most of them are very similar now, but if you need a lower profile that might sway you to one or another.

I've still got the yellow Halfords 1 ton thing from prob 25 years ago, still works fine and has lived in every car I've driven ever since ( it's been used a lot too )

I've still got the 2 ton EPCO that I bought on the day that VAT went up from 8 to 15%. (1976?) Somehow my invoice got dated to the day before.
I've got the Clarke 3 tonner, a sealey 1.5 ton, and a couple of others. I leave them in different parts of the workshop so I don't have to drag them too far.

My Bradbury 1.5 ton that I got new 50 years ago this year is still going strong. If I had to replace it I would be looking for another or an EPCO, nothing else comes close for quality or reliability

I agree with @steveo3002 on those smaller jacks, the front wheel track is not very wide compared with how high they lift and topple easily.

Looks like they no longer do the particular 3 ton Sealey high and rocket lift that I have had for about 15 years. Great easily controlled jack for home use but damned heavy so it pretty much stays in the garage

Have tried the smaller 2 ton one like you mention but always the urgent need to get a stand under the vehicle. Carrying it about is easy though

I got a costco 2.5 ton jack to replace my 40+ year old cheapy that I didn't want to rely on any more and its very narrow and some of my concrete is on a slope. The costco one has a small demountable tower on the front so it can be a low jack and cope with higher vechicles as well. It's sold in the states as 3 ton but apparently the small tower attachment lowers the max load. Its heavy but fortunately I dont have to carry it.

Them Sealey Viking 4ton trolley jacks are "a proper thing" for only £220 ish.

Not as low as Irimo - lowest heavy duty jack money can buy.
