That's a really good idea, @cocker . I hadn't thought of that. Will get googling! For some ideas involving some welding have a look at pond covers .

I don't need access, @gaz1 , but I do want to be able to see the water: just because, really. We have other wells and cisterns for practical purposes.is it a working well or are you blocking all access to it ?
Well, no-one's going to fall through that, are they, Bob?!!!Its not hard to make up a cover with heavy flat sections. I knocked up the one below to cover a sediment pit in the middle of a gravel carpark, something similar would do the job. Made in two parts because it was kin heavy.

Locally, I can get 6mm or 8mm diameter rivets, in either 20mm or 40mm lengths. What thickness flat bar did you use?
Je te remercie, Mick !20x5 bar plat, 8mm rivets

That's very smart, @Onoff.You could get a flat plate plasma or laser cut with your own design or something that incorporates design elements reflecting the locale, your coat of arms, family crest etc.

We have a well in the hallway. Where would I look to get a glass top made for it?I think, take the brickwork down, then cover with with a lattice of thin sticks, and cover them with some dead leaves.
House in the village has got a well in the middle of their kitchen floor. Its about 35 metres down to the water, and its covered with a very thick glass plate. Its quite unnerving to walk across![]()
Probably a bit specialist, possibly toughened or laminated, but I imagine any decent glaziers would be able to help, or at least point you in the right direction. We have a well in the hallway. Where would I look to get a glass top made for it?

I watched an interesting video last week on Neil Paskin's YouTube channel (Pask Makes) where he used traditional rivetting on a new gate build. That is very nice indeed. I do feel somewhat drawn to having a go at rivetted construction.
