El cheapo cordless grease guns

Looking for a cheap cordless grease gun. The only activities it will see are filling up an auto lube pot with virtually no resistance behind it (doing it by hand now and no effort required) and the king pins on the crane, so 20-40 grease nipples needing 6-10 shots of grease a go.

Seen a fair few Chinese brands on fleabay for about 75 quid, any experience with them?

I have a vevor air powered one at the moment, but now I'm on bigger cranes I'm needing the air line to reach further and it's a faff getting to the supply points on some of them.

Cheap is a necessity as I don't want to be lugging it in and out of the crane, so there's a small chance of it getting nicked and I'd be less annoyed if 75 quid went missing than if 300 quid went missing.

I had a cheap one.
The connector on the outlet end was useless, cost me about £30 to put a decent end on it.
Apart from that it worked fine.
The big downside to it was it had its own battries and charger Because I didn't use it much the battries were flat whenever I wanted to use it and the charger was really slow.

I eventually upgraded to a metabo one mainly because I always have a selection of battries ready to use.
Metabo one feels like much better quality. I never had any problems with the cheap one but the Metabo plastics don't feel like they would shatter if dropped. It's also much quieter.
The metabo also has textured grips which make it much easier to hold if younare wearing greasy nitrile gloves although the cheap plastic one was much easier to wipe clean..

Price wise I think I paid about £100 for the cheap one (with 2 batteries, Charger and case.
The metabo was over £200 bare.

Having had both, if I didn't have either now I'd just buy the metabo. I don't particularly think the metabo is worth the extra apart from the battery convenience though.

One advantage is metabo spare parts are easier available but having said that I expect a replacement motor or gear head costs more than a complete Chinese set does..

Like most things you get what you pay for. Buy a bare unit to match the batteries you have

It would get used atleast once a week and I'm not bothered about proprietary battery styles.

I have a long hose with a sling clip type locking connector I can take off the vevor if necessary as well.

Part of the problem I had was I think most 'normal' / branded cordless guns use 1/4" fittings and the chinese one was some random metric size..

ah right, if thats the case i will whip an adapter up on the lathe.

we use laser hand pump grease guns for general use, and then i have the vevor that i was using for over 2 years on the 60 tonner, but the air point on that was on the rear corner so really easy to access and almost directly below the auto lube pot too...on the 130 the air drier is above the front axle, and the auto lube pot it on top of the hydralics cabinet at the rear of the superstructure so more faff than its worth to use the air powered one.

we usually us ethe fitters dewalt one in the yard when doing king pins, but having had to do them on site today with a manual grease gun, im more than happy to buy achinese cordless one to save some effort and time.

will be buying a drone thursday, so will chuck a grease gun in my amazon basket and order at the same time for delivery friday, ready to grease up again saturday

as it happens, its a yofidra one ive just put in my amazon basket. i dont have any other makita kit, but as this will live in the crane im not too bothered as ill just bring the batteries home, or if im on site long term like now i will charge them in the cabin

Don't get an electric one just for filling the auto lube. They do a special filling tool for them that will do it quicker than an electric grease gun.

Then get an alemite manual two speed for doing the rest. They have two settings, high pressure low volume or low pressure high volume. They are the best grease guns you can buy. I have the single speed alemite and have had it 15 years and it is still like new. I have tried various electric grease guns from cheapy to Milwaukee. And I would choose the manual alemite every time. Mine has the solid metal hose and depending on the grease nipple position it is far and away quicker. Hitachi excavators for example have all the grease guns positioned correctly for this.

im not worried about speed for filling the auto lube pot, especially as its being filled through a standard 1/4" grease nipple anyway and as i top it up weekly it only ever takes 3/4 of a tube of EP2, then the rest gets smeared under the outrigger sliding beams or used on the hook block depending on which needs it more at the time

Is the quick fill not something that you could ask the company to put a couple in the workshop? If it makes multiple operators lives easier and speeds the job up it can't be a bad thing.
I would still recommend the alemite over electric.

most of the cranes we have, havent got a lot of space to change the grease nipple for much else, especially the cranes with auto lube on the carrier chassis as well as the superstructure, as the chassis system is usually tucked up in some obscure place as an afterthought and on the superstructure they are commonly inside the hydraulics cabinet and pretty low to the bottom. we had quick fill ports on the ones at sparrows which involved having to cut a hole in the bottom of the hydraulics cabinet to be able to attach the hose, but that was a bit backwards as we werent really able to carry grease so it got done in the workshop anyway.

dont get me wrong, im not saying its difficult to fill these things, its a tube a week that takes 5 mins for the most part and the boys on the cranes smaller than mine are all based in the yard with the workshop anyway so they all top up in there with the fitters electric greaser when they get half empty, i am just a fan of making my own life easier without being that guy that always asks for stuff to be changed/made/reinvented or bought for me, plus i know i have applications outside of work for it as well occasionally. i know the lads on the 250 and 300 have their own electric grease guns, an the 450 came with one from the factory as its got 4 auto lube systems (i think) and 16 king pins, plus the luffer hoist assembly and a few other bits as well that need greasing almost every job.

im making stupid money on the current job and while i am looking for a cheap version, that is purely becasue i dont want it in and out of the van every night but also it wont be the end of the world if it goes missing on site over night, so want to treat myself to a new tool.

I got the worst collection of grease guns known to man - maybe this is where I've been going wrong? Lack of investment? Lack of budget thrown at the project!

I have got an air one that goes on 50kg buckets - Samoa pumpmaster messy thing - that was not new when I got it - but works OK.

I’ve got the m12 one, had the batteries before I got the grease gun. It’s so much easier and cleaner than a traditional grease guns.

This is collection only but a very good deal for anyone local. This is what I have.
Also the alemite chucks are far superior than anything else and are only a few quid so well worth buying regardless of which grease gun you get

That is true, but M12 is a decent and compact system if your likely to consider any of their other tools.

You can get genuine charger and battery for 20 each, I doubt the grease gun will need a high capacity battery..
Theres also a whole load of clone batteries and chargers available for them tho I have not tried.

The m12 stubby impact is possibly the best available, the ratchets are good, the rotary tool is the best available (I use for chainsaw sharpening), cut off tool is decent. Im likely to order the 3" sander but not yet decided.
