Waterproof 12 volt plug and socket recommendations.

I'm looking for a weatherproof IP67? plug and socket so I can easily put the Surf on charge without opening the bonnet and messing around with crocodile clips etc.
It wouldn't start the other day in an emergency when my wife and son needed to go and collect a Christmas tree...
The only accessible place to fit it is in the front grill so it'll get a good blasting.

I've got an anderson (with the boots/covers) in my front grill.
It's held up fine too weather hedges, cyclists, etc for 8yrs or so.

Not the easiest thing to connect/unplug though. Fine for jump starting but I wouldn't want to use it regularly for charging.

There was a thread on her somewhere about a magnetic connector. That's what I'd do if I wanted to use it often.

Thanks Brad, it's probably a bit big to fit between the gaps in the front grill though. I'll have a look for some Auqasafe gear online.

If its happening often I suggest new battery time, shouldnt need to mess about charging it. Charge it by driving it!

Internal cig lighter socket would also do it with the key turned. Not suitable for jump starting but you could happily feed 10A in for 15 minutes which would get a good surface charge on the battery.


However if there was another reason,. I'd probably suggest an RC XT60 connector or similar, with adequate fuse. You can get panel mount, rubber cap versions.

The batteries are getting old and I don't drive it much so they go flat after a couple of weeks, I want a waterproof connector in the front grill that I can just plug in quickly though so those XT60 ones won't work.

If all you are doing is sticking it on trickle charge then a wireless module would work.
Encase the whole thing in epoxy or something so it's completely sealed.
Use magnets to fit it in place or just drop it into a bracket.

That sounds like an idea for me to look into to charge my electric joystich wheel chair batter whilse it's still inside th ecar . Currently I slip and old law mower cable in to the granny charger . I take power from a shielded pull out on my caravan side wall which is RCD protected .

Twice in almost 11 years ( early on ) I have driven away when it's been chucking it down with rain at night. On board charging sounds ideal as It does not get a lot of use most weeks , just a short supermarket jobby every four or five weeks by my MS disabled wife.

A good idea but the car sits in shade all year round.
