where do you get the idea that folk have a cavalier attitude ,,, I read the exact opposite ,,,

all the advise in this and maany other threads has been to look after your eyes , infact in general its to look after your health and well being .

I bought some suncream years ago so I could weld with thin cloths when it was baking hot

I do it all the time now when im welding, bit on my neck and arms, makes a big difference

Had a 45 year old site micromanager who decided I wasn’t doing enough and spent an 8 hour shift watching me without a mask. His brother (company owner) turned up on site the next morning in his place and told me he’d phoned him at 2am crying and saying he’d gone blind

The prick reappeared 4 days later and demanded an apology from me. Packed my gear up and walked off site. I walked out of the company a 2 weeks later. Thick as mince, the lot of them. Ended up going bust a couple years later and locked the unit up with the lads toolboxes and welding gear inside. They put the works transit through the roller shutter and got their stuff back

Why would you think I got angry ,,, do you have a complex ?

It's a mixture of jealousy and retaliation, most women's clothes don't come with pockets and they are over the moon when they come across them. They should take it up with the manufacturers, not take it out on their menfolk.

I have often wondered what wimmin keep in their bags, judging by the weight of them. SWMBO does not own a hand or shoulder bag of any sort, just uses pockets.

But just think, you could carry round all those essential like ladies do. Small spanner set, selection of nuts and bolts, roll of duct tape, lathe chuck key, etc, for those just in case occasions........

Me ? I would just lose it within a day.

I have RCE recurring corneal erosion syndrome. Just like arc eye. Got it from strimming a garden without safety glasses. Tiny bit of twig went in my eye - didn't even hurt but the pain started the next day. Had it for 30 years! Basically your eyelids stick to the cornea. Natural reaction when you wake - open eyes - cornea tears. Very nasty. I used to use lacrilube. These days I just keep a bottle of cheap tesco eye wash by the bed. Just squirt some over my eyes each morning - then slowly start blinking and opening them gently.
It had almost gone away - until I started building my Ai system! 12 hours a day on computers doesn't help.
There is a cure. Basically cause some real damage to the eye - they stab it with a sharp needle in multiple places so it scars properly and then heals. Doesn't always work though so I passed on that

I still dont need glasses though. forgetting to blink enough staring at a screen is the problem.

not all lenses are uv safe ..

They aren't, but the lenses on them will refract a quantity of the UV radiation and it's still likely to be better than not wearing them at all.

dont forget that can be a two way thing depending on the script , think minimise and maximise ,,, its clearly a double edges sword ,,, pun intended .

I'm not following what you mean, unless you mean that UV radiation behind the glasses may scatter back into your eyes?

Plain old glass blocks a significant quantity of UV radiation from passing through, as does polycarbonate and various other clear materials.

They do not provide total "protection" and you can obviously still suffer harm, but if I was going to accidentally look at a huge source of UV radiation I'd rather be wearing plain eye glasses than nothing.
