Hi Im Sean from Scotland. I think its probably time to sign up as this seems a helpful place. I've never welded before but think I should start as I've got old vehicles to try and keep on the road and you can see them rusting in this climate.
Welcome, a few Scot's on here.

English was my worst subject at school: having to read Dickens (when Lady Franklin had paid him to discredit my relative John Rae for reporting on the cannibalism of the ill fated crew of the Franklin expedition) also my granny was belted for speaking Gaelic at primary school in Argyll may have shaped my lack of effort*Scots - no apostrophe.
Oh, and there's also at least one pedant.
Welcome, Sean.

Ach Weil, Your Grannie would not be wanting you to waste a guid grudge like that!also my granny was belted for speaking Gaelic at primary school in Argyll may have shaped my lack of effort

I doubt there is anybody in Scotland with an imagination that sick. What if we are all a figment if scot's imagination

I got C for O grade and higher English, I did French as needed a language O grade to get into Uni then ended up doing technical college and work before going back for a degree.Nor was it one of mine! I was in Englandshire in the mid-eighties and did O-Grade English and English Literature, even went to see MacBeth at Stratford-upon-Avon.
Funnily enough it was only recently, only a few months ago, that I came to appreciate having gained the English Literature some 40yrs ago; had I not had that I would not have gained entry to Moray House in Edinburgh to do my PGDE, and thus qualify as a high schoolpedantteacher, as Scottish teachers must have a Higher in English! I don't, but the combination of the two English qualifications met that entry requirement.
I ended up with 2 quals in English language, we were a test year for the planned GCSE exams, so sat that after doing the O level version and got an O level and a GCSE pass.English was my worst subject at school: having to read Dickens (when Lady Franklin had paid him to discredit my relative John Rae for reporting on the cannibalism of the ill fated crew of the Franklin expedition) also my granny was belted for speaking Gaelic at primary school in Argyll may have shaped my lack of effort![]()
