Reverse polarity switch

My latest modification to the milling machine is a windscreen motor and gears attached to the shaft which used to raise and lower the head with a manually operated handle.
It works fine and to change direction (up or down) I just have to swap the polarity on the temporary wires that I have on the motor.

I bought a momentary switch which I thought would swap the polarity but looking inside at the 4 connectors I can't see how it is going to do that or is there some way it can be done or do I need a different switch?

You need a DPDT switch (which you probably have) and just wire thus...

No he doesn't
The middle screw is used held the switch module on the button

The switch you have is just two normally open contacts - you would usually use those switched to drive relays in order to reverse the direction, but it may be that that you can do it with just the switches. the first thing you should do is sketch out the connection for your motor with the polarity of the supply for each direction, then you can work out how the switches are going to work, or if you need extra bits

Either get yourself a dewhurst switch or ask @500e here to open the switch box on the drill/mill i have just sold him, i fitted a 12v mobility chair motor to it that had the same idea as in switch up and down.

Have a dedicated rattle can mixer. A mouse running along a wall for a play in village hall.

Yes it has 2 actually, I extended the nuts so I could tighten/loosen clear of the machine, 1 is the tube you see sticking out, there is 1 on each side.

Ahh, that makes perfect sense to me. I was an idiot getting the switch that I have, I was attracted to it by the arrows on the buttons.
@daleyd is right, the switch would work in conjunction with relays or contactors I'm sure.

Might also fit an isolating switch to prevent accidental activation but I doubt if I need to for a momentary switch.

just need to slacken the clamp 1st...took me about 10 seconds to undo and move up or down with mine

A car electric window switch is all you need, something from the 90's.

Couple of elastic bands to hold can on angle , 2 speed have a 12volt 4A dc psu as power bit of cut off RSJ to hold it down
Real cobble up but works no shaking tin, the ball in the can does the work. Warning dont put the switch where I did

It was a joke between 4 of us to make a paint mixer, one made a arm that fitted in the lathe but you had to run it ,seemed a bit over the top.
The other 2 made things that Were so Heath Robinson it was amazing

i put my tins off center in the 3 jaw and run the back gear for 5 mins, nice slow gentle turn and the ball inside mixes well. think its about 50 rpm

Aye, I was thinking that it might be a bit optimistic to rely on a nylon gearwheel holding that head in place
