Help with new plasma cutter please.

Hello everyone, I am hoping some of the very knowledgeable folks on here can help me with my new bestarc BTC500DP 7GEN 50A Non-Touch Pilot Arc plasma 220V cutter.
It was delivered to me in the UK with a European Schuko plug, so thinking I could replace the plug with a 16amp heavy duty connector, I wire it up red to red, blue to blue, earth to earth etc.
When I turned the machine on, the fan came on for a split second and nothing else happened. It’s now dead.

I called a professional welder friend round and he cannot see what is wrong and confirmed he would have wired this up the same way.

Bestarc have said they will be sending me a new one, but I think this too may be coming with a euro plug. So before its arrival can anyone give me some guidance as the best way to wire this up for UK power supply.

Have you looked for any fuses?

Sounds like it's wired correctly as the colours are pretty simple...decent possibility that it's just faulty

Broken Biker thanks for your reply. Yes I have checked all the fuses, but there is still power going to and from the machine switch.
I am trying to avoid doing this again with the replacement, so hoping someone knows these machine and can advise with regards to the specific wiring of this machine.

if all you have done is take 1 plug off and replaced it with a suitably rated plug, i cant see the wiring being an issue. have you any photos of the wiring you have done? they usually go a long way on here to help these sorts of issues

Bob, I purchased it direct from BESTARC web site and selected the EU220v version, because there were no uk specified unit available. But they did have the EU version available in the UK , delivered in 3 days (hopefully not buy in haste, repent at leisure)
It was remarkably cheap compared to the ones listed on Amazon.

You could ask, say the EU plug is not what you want and you require in the interest of safety at work it needs changing it to Protect anyone using it and yourself from @Parm .
Another way is did you cut the plug off with a few mm of wire still attached if so just meter the wires you are really only checking the Earth wire as the other 2 should make no difference, nicer to have them correct but should run ok

Sorry, but this is the risk when you buy the cheapest possible. You have to be prepared for machines that die the first time they're switched on.

I doubt you did anything wrong wiring wise - if you had, you'd probably have tripped a breaker before the unit itself popped.

with you having a dud unit can you take the side panel off and then trace your wires

this is to make sure its wired the right way

if your sending said unit back dont do it as dont break that security seal

we had to do it with the cut 50 and so did skotyl but that was with non coloured wiring

if i can get into it id be checking more than testing for power but thats me but i know what im doing

Sounds like a M.S.E. to me as well....contact the seller and ask for a returns label and/or another unit...

You need an adapter for UK to prove it kind of works before hacking into it....

....once you find machine works then by all means fit a 16A plug! If you modify before checking seller could quite reasonably insist you did something wrong and refuse refund...
Btw I'm not surprised these machiness might not work out of the box (right up there with hitbox welders). And if it goes bang after 6 months you have no options. They're £275 on Amazon, with approx 10 day delivery

I have asked the question from the manufacturer about a UK power supply cable set up and I am still waiting to hear from them again.

Munkal, Thanks for your reply. I think you are right. I have checked the wiring again and again and it all looks good.
It didn’t trip the breaker in the workshop consumer unit with a 20A mcb?
The appeal of this machine was the vast amount of positive reviews from other countries. But I have got to be honest, as the I only want initially to cut some thin metal sheet for a car repair, the price from the manufacturer of £124 delivered, was a major factor. And it was delivered in three days.

Thanks Gaz1, when I contacted the manufacturer, they actually asked me to open it up and check the wiring? Which I did after they said it wouldn’t affect the warranty.
