What bug is this?

Last night hundreds of these appeared in the living room.
Anyone know what they are?

I thought it looked like the ones we had but when I zoomed in it is different.

Did it have a small head in addition to what you see in the pic?

I'm with Hood - looked very like a woodworm beetle but its colouration is wrong and it's missing the longitudinal "ribs" on the carapace. Now is bang on when they would all fly as well.

I will check the guidebooks for it...

Oh they can emit a horrible substance when threatened, it stinks

had to turn one over on the decking twice yesterday which was about three times the size of that.

They fly off up into the trees usually

How big is it? looks small to me but nothing really for scale
