ACF50 advice needed

I hope this is the right place for this, it is car related.
My Sorento is a crusty old lump underneath but solid. I know that acf50 is highly regarded and that people have used it for vehicle rust prevention. This is more rust slowing down and I have found some examples of it being used on rusty stuff. However I have also seen people saying it just washes off at the first hint of drizzle (which doesn't seem likely to me).
What does the panel think.

I’ve squirted it on slightly rusting fasteners and fittings on my old BM bike and it seemed to turn the rust dark and stop it getting any worse. It stays on through several washings with soapy water and I’d give it another squirt a couple of times over winter.

I spray it in all around the bottom of the bike, and if anything it makes the bike look a bit messy, as it attracts dust and muck, sticks to it like glue, takes some washing off after winter is over.

It does seem to bind into the metal to form a skin, and seems to prevent further rusting.
Good stuff, which I also use for rust - prevention on machine tools , measuring instruments, and the like.

"ACF-50 actively penetrates through the corrosion deposits to the base of the cell where it emulsifies and encapsulates the electrolyte, lifting it away from the metal surface. ACF-50 then dispels this moisture and provides an atmospheric barrier which prevents any further moisture contact, thereby keeping the cell inactive"
Which sounds like a corrosion treatment to me.

Gotta love marketing hype. Pinchnof salt my friend, pinch of salt.

I've been using acf50 since the early 00's on old steel framed rusty bikes through to nice alloy framed ones.

On thing I can tell you for certain, it will stop alloy going white and horrible, it keeps polished wheels clear of salt corrosion, steel frames don't rust, but if it's already there, acf 50 doesn't make it go away.

it actually works well in that situation , the likes of Discovery / range rover tank guards that are actually made by Andrex for land rover can have their life expectancy stretched for a few more years if you catch them at the speckle stage ,,, it seems to get a real good grip and stops rust where it is .

works as a very good penetrating oil too ....

you just put a light dusting where its needed and it will work wonders for your '' married life ''


put it on the door knob and it keep the kids out of the bedroom

and a big fat wallet needed cheapo wd 40 is over 30 quid a gallon. ac 50 is about 25 for a poxy little bottle

a litre will do it ,,, you mist it , dont put it on with a schutz gun

i allready use it and have done for years .only gets used on decent stuff . duck oil bought for 20 quid a gallon for the rest

Might be better off with Bilt Hamber Dynax-UB?.

I've used it on subframes and it's great stuff.

I'm not one for marketing speil.
I don't expect it to get rid of rust. Slowing it down will suffice.

I don't need to do all of it fortunately. The body now has my magnificent sills on it and any other repairs needed will be treated with equal abuse. It's the chassis I want to protect so not a lot of magic sledge needed.

Actually I haven't, the price did bring a Yorkshire battle cry and I'm not from Yorkshire.
But if it works then I will be ok with it.
