Are you sure they're not just dummy display batteries, wouldn't be the first time.

A workmate once got a blinding deal in a motorway services for a 50 inch flat screen tele, until he tried to plug it in and turn it on.......Window display model......NO GUTS in it ........;.;.

I don't think shoplifters even try any more. They just pick it up and walk out with it, safe in the knowledge that the staff have been told not to stop them incase they get stabbed for their efforts and the police can't do anything about it either.

Even if they get caught they get told to stop being naughty and sent back to do it again.

Possibly during 2008 I was in a Co-Op late shop in Urmston, Manchester. A bloke walked in and went directly to the stacked crates of beer. He walked past the counter and said "I'm taking these right", opened the door and left. Nothing happened, service continued.

The chain is looped thru the plastic handle.
a simple hand held (small) lopper shear for trimming branches will easily (and quietly)
sever the handle.

they dont they just blatantly go up and carry them out just cut the handle apart to release the chain
