Normal cobras can get those off too. Maybe not quite so controllably but it does work

I cut some grooves into the jaws of my slip-jaw pliers which helped a little - when I went to get the replacement elbow the chap at the breakers had some like that. I'm sure the rotating jaws on those will help, it's just quite a price for a pair. Some of the hose clips (one of the four on the item I was replacing) had the "ears" that stick up so there's plenty for the pliers to grab, it's just those with the flatter ones that are a pain.

Oh, thanks, that's much more reasonable as I'm also not using them often. I see a lot of US Pro stuff at local shows where there are autojumbles, though I bet they'll be dearer than that.

But a few accurate cuts with dremel and mini grinding wheel in a sacrificial set of slip point water pump pliers would get you the same tool as a fraction of the cost...

I have similar to these in a set with the round end pliers listed above etc, they may be cheap and cheesy but they worked magic on some very awkward to get to clips. You ratchet the pressure on, then focus on getting the clip displaced, then flick the lever to defeat the latch and open them.
Aye the cable operated tool is handy when the fitting is in a nest of other stuff or out of reach of the average hand held plier tool.
I bought something like this set a few years ago, I had to put another crimp on the cable but otherwise all good, they get DIY intensity use ie. not every day but more than enough to have paid for themselves many times over & not so much that I regret not having spent more. If one breaks & I can't fix it I'd consider buying a recognised brand but for the money I paid I'm v happy.

They're fiddly to use, but I certainly couldn't have got the MAF sensor of of my Merc without one.
