I have mine on the lower right side of my windscreen. To me this is the safest most practical location as I can view it without taking my eyes off the road. Or at least in my opinion alot better than having it middle or low down on the dash board and looking over at it each time. I'm sure members will be shy on their opinions on this but that's mine and I'm sticking with it

Google maps acts exactly the same as all features you mention above.

In fact, the other day I got a speed camera notification on google which said reported by waze drivers!

Google maps also has offline maps. Perchance yesterday I had my data turned off on my phone and Google maps worked perfectly as normal during my trip using offline maps. It must use location services on sim but no data, no idea how it works - but it does.

It does, and thats also my point if its not clear, you just pick whatever navigation app you want that runs on android. The only difference is I install and run them on the head unit permanently installed that has all the features of the phone including 4g and gps unit because I prefer to do that and it means I dont have to remember to grab my phone, or find out its sync'd to daughters apple and she's fiddled with things to make it work. You can stream spotify, or heartfm or whatever, we can even control the house automation from it.
Just about to put one in the slk and alter it to take a double din, I'll probably get banned from the owners group on facebook for that

One thing I've noticed recently, is that now (last month or so) it takes ages to work out the best route. It used to be lighning fast before.

Have you tried clearing the cache on all the apps?
On mine it really helps speed the thing up.

It is a shame that TomTom refuse to update their errors. I was telling them for five years that their database was wrong, but they were uninterested. I wonder if they have sorted it yet? If you have chance, input GL1 5SR 134 and see where it shows? It should show the junction of Bristol Road and Frampton Road, but for a decade, it was pointing to Bristol Road in Quedgeley (GL2 xxx and Vicky Verki whoever she was).

So it seems they've really dropped the ball here then!
Whole areas of London are incorrect so maybe they have a back hander deal with TFL to send drivers into no entry zones and bus gates with a 50/50 split of the fines

I had a range rover classic beater, and I wanted satnav mapping about 23ish years ago and it wasnt really a thing back then. So I installed a old laptop under the dash area without its screen, and fitted a ex till point of sale touchscreen and joined Garman's gps experimenter program and got a early access unit that arrived and it didnt even have a case or anything, just a steel box with some tails to integrate into whatever you want. I ran openstreetmap maps, and it worked for what I needed and collegues at work were a bit blown away by it.
So I'm driving round with this beater rangie with a 10" till monitor on the dash in front of the gear lever area, and police pulled me and they didnt know if it was illegal or not, and neither did I to be honest. So they let me go. I still have the gvs25 experimenter gps, its just kept for nostalgia now though as technology has moved so fast.

The manufacturers put their nav screens in the same area the android units go, and mostly you drive listening to voice directions rather than looking at the screen in reality.

In heavy traffic one day I was behind a car that had a Tom Tom satnav on the driver's side centre of the screen at eye level!
I had to get out and tap on their window and ask how they can see to drive the car, the dimwit couldn't understand what I was taking about!
I would ban them for life if I could.

This was on the M5, the police now have an artic unit driving down there as they can see into vehicles from it. It’s been on the local news about it, they spot allsorts of antics

She must've had very long legs, if she was able to get sufficient distance from the steering wheel to accommodate the laptop AND keyboard!!

If I remember I will try using delm8 address finder tomorrow as that does locate numbers and names.
But I can only do one seach per day on the free app which I have already used up.

Last US rental I requested a GPS with (in Arizona) came with as tablet with, if I remember correctly, three choices of map/route provider.

What I didn't realise is the sod ding thing wasn't charging from the lead they supplied until it simply turned off when I nearly knew where I was going . . .

Well that is a lot closer, just one block out, which is likely because it doesn't do house numbers. Thank you.

as an old fogie I use Garmin , its not perfect , but gets you there ,apart from the odd moments it has , like telling you to turn left into a field when your on a dual carriagway main A road and have to stay on that road for next thirty mile !! for some reason it thinks you should be bothering the farmers critters.

In June 2013, Waze was acquired by Google for $1.3 billion. Initially, Google kept Waze as a separate app with its own developers, but as a Google user, I've noted Waze-style features appearing on Google Maps recently. I assume as a cost-cutting measure the two apps are being merged into one and the Waze 'brand' will wither away.

Google has a habit of buying things to kill them, or abandoning their own products after a few years. But there's a nuance here for us in that speed camera maps are illegal here. So Google can't integrate that alerting without making it unusable within the law. However, the waze alerts are added by users in real time, so technically Waze isn't adding them.
So remember if your touring France and I think other parts of continental europe & have speed camera alerts on, refuse the police access to your car interior if stopped as they can only search if permitted, and if they find the device with alerts once permitted, they might prosecute you for it. If they search the interior without getting permission, they cant prosecute on that basis.

I remember a zoom meeting at work, and with one participant who joined by voice only you could hear the click click of the turn signal indicator relays occasionally when he was speaking.
