Toolbox valuation

I have a big snap on 53inch toolbox that until recently was in very good condition with a value probably around £2200 without the side cab. Work was broken into recently and unfortunately my toolbox was targeted and levered open. Top box has the lid bent up with scratching on the side where the locking bar slots in. Bottom box had every drawer levered out and bent along with the locking bars at the back. Hopefully I should be getting a payout from the insurance. I no longer need the box as of today I've left the company, plus most of my tools from inside were stolen. The chap I worked with wants to buy it but I have no idea of value, if I first bring it home I will have to pay a man with a van to transport it, if I ebay it I will have to pay fees.
Any idea what it might be worth in damaged condition?

sorry to see that but as you see really not worth the money that you pay for them

for value it still has a price but it depends on what you think it might still be worth

do you bite the bullet and try to straighten it out yourself as best as you can

a genuine query here did work know you was leaving there place today?

They’re worth every penny you pay for them if they are worth that to you Is it a KRA? Not sure on the locking mechanism but can it be replaced at all ? Sounds like even then the drawers themselves are a bit mangled. I’d be having a conversation with my SO man for ideas/options but I suspect it’s a total loss for insurance - will you get your money back ? Sounds like a lot of work to take on (the top box might be a quick fix from what you say) so suspect the value is in the top box and he’d be doing you a favour taking over the bottom cab so you don’t need to deal with transport ? Sorry can’t be more help !! Feel for you - utter scrotes.

I had enough of working there so now unemployed, however I'm having a chat with someone tomorrow about a job, just finalising the details.I do auto upholstery at the moment, maybe taking a side step into furniture.Working conditions will be far better.

Yes KRA. I'm not fixing it myself, just need to get rid of it as it is. I got a good deal on it when I got it secondhand, paid about £1400.Insurance valuation (from snap on website) for replacement is around £10k. Total replacement value for tool and box is around £18k! though not expecting to get anywhere near that. They might have done a favour in that I now don't need to store or sell either box or contents.

Just noticed that one of the pics is for a teng roll cab I also have that was damaged though they didn't take anything from it which was useful as thats my day to day tools.

Very much worth the money I paid for it, until it was damaged it was worth more than I paid for it, if the insurance pays out then it should be worth way more.
Not inside. Having the tools stolen gave me the kick in the **** that I needed to make me leave.

Old for new insurance is the only way to protect an investment like this, last time I looked they wanted the tools itemised and wanted proof of purchase, who keeps receipts for every tool purchase?

Don't have receipts but I do have photos of each and every drawer showing what was inside.

@keithski122 Sorry to hear about the break in. there are some lovely people in the world, and then there are the other sort.
As for toolbox valuation, having done quite a bit of buying & selling over the years, ultimately it's worth no more than what someone is willing to pay you.
If as @arther dailey says, the guy at work makes you a fair offer, take the money and move on.
Sounds like trying to transport it and then store it would cost you money.
having been in a similar situation, the insurers will always try and lowball you first, as the lost adjusters job is just that, to try and adjust the insurers loss to the very minimal.
If you stand your ground, they will generally pay out near what you want.

Bloke I know with a garage built a lockable steel cage, kept the tools in that

Insurance came round and told him the oxy acetylene had to be outside the cage

Guess what thieves used to get into the cage?

Because insurance has made it a condition they had to pay out

This is good advice……many years ago we were burgled and many of my tools were stolen. Insurance argued, didnt want to pay. Your not a mechanic so why have you got mechanics tools etc.

My old man produced loads of photos, he'd been baby sitting my son, while playing with his new 35mm camera, drawers open, my son playing with spanners etc. probably the last time he held a spanner, as he hasn't a clue which end to hold!

Probably worth while in the house/ shed too incase of fire.
