Its a positive step closing down coal stations….as all the coals need to be imported and have been for a long while. Energy security …if your importing fuel to produce energy your reliant on outside sources with their influence on your energy costs.
China has lots of cheap coal so financially it makes sense for them, I suspect they will be doing there best to make them burn as clean as possible by-scrubbing the exhaust etc.

All the manufacturing that goes on in China and India - would need allot of energy - to run it for sure...

Even if we built it all tomorrow, on several days this winter, without gas or nuclear we would be in the dark - I fail to see why this isn't obvious?

We are totally beholden to gas and gas prices. All the lies, yes blatant lies, because I can't believe he's that stupid, by MrStarmer that renewables will give us cheap energy are so obvious that I can't believe more is not made of it. wind does not blow all the time, solar panels don't work in the winter or at night. Get some small nuclear built asap is the only answer.

My home solar is a example of that

How the hell is a post pointing out the very obvious fact of what’s going on and how every party works . It was not political it was an observation of head in the sand behaviour with regard to emissions by everyone in power .

You will have to be over 60 to remember the three day week, no tv after 10.30, sitting in the dark with candlelight and listening to a transistor radio ,eating sandwiches as the power was cut off for a few hours in the evening. That could happen again for a different reason now.
Please no responses about trade unions etc. Purely an observation that nobody under 50 will remember what it is like to be without power or go home early from work as you are about to be plunged into darkness.

It was lucky we were a camping family and used to living "off grid", my dad would set up a camping stove in the kitchen to boil water and a Tilley lamp for light.

As a kid, power cuts were one of the highlights of the evening.
Mum getting the candles out always made us so happy! I'll never forget the synchronised shout of "POWER CUT!!!!"

Not sure it was a highlight seeing if there was a drop of warmth left in the storage heaters, the paraffin heater gently smouldering in the hall !!
Trouble is we rely on electric for everything these days, you wont even be able to make a phone call soon if we have a power cut
