Where to purchase a M8

Replacement M8,1.25 LHT strimmer head .

Found one only, Makita brand

The two generics I found and ordered off Amazon UK turned out to be RHTs, nothing in the descriptions to suggest that.

There must be more choice then one but my searches can't find anything.

Can any one help?

Its a B&Q special, Mac Allister MBC1042, electric, 240V, very few parts available, purchased recently.

I was on a budget, I was desperate, I had let two of the largish gardens get out of hand, fortunately very few brambles, mostly just very long grass, chest high.

The strimmer is coping very well, the head was pre loaded with 2.4mm twisted line, you either love or hate twisted line but it is tearing through the grass nicely, but refills jams on the spool, constant stop and goes

I would like to fit a better strimmer head, thought I had sorted it but as per my OP, it was a non starter.

As I said except for one, can't find a generic or branded replacement M8,1.25 LHT strimmer head for it.

I'm sure oregon do one, husqvarna definitely do, their t35 universal has an m8 lh nut supplied with the head.

Straight shaft strimmers all turn one direction & bent shaft ones turn the opposite direction because they don't have any gearbox at the head.

I had a look online there appears to be an awful lot of knock offs of this product.

Presumably I open it up, insert one of the thread adaptors, close it up, add line and I'm away, is it that easy?

That's about it, Shindaiwa are better known in the UK as "Echo chainsaws, so if you want a genuine head assembly (which I totally agree with), check out your local Echo Stockist or order on online from a Echo Dealer.

I fitted the larger (450?) head assembly to my Parkerbrand 52cc strimmer, it doesn't jamm up like the oem standard head and feeds without problems, best upgrade ever....

Stick to a known brand, Huskies and Oregon offering should be ok as well quality wise....

Oregon may do one, I say may coz I may have made a muppet of myself.

One of the heads I ordered was a Oregon one and it came with 5 adaptors, I hadn't realised until some of the replies here that the adaptor goes inside the head to make it fit the strimmer head, I'm thinking it screwed in from the bottom and of course none would fit.

It was a nice bit of kit but I would have had to return it even if I had realised how to fit it, what I got was enormous, I mean huge, clearly for a powerful petrol strimmer, not for what I have.

Had a look at the T35, it may well do, again like the SpeedFeed, a lot of generic knock offs with this head, most don't appear to come with adaptors, is one required with the genuine product.

I'm not against knocks per say but you get what you pay for.

Easily done. I sell them and it took me a minute to work out what went where. And how to get it apart without breaking it or my fingers!!

The standard t35 is just either m10 or m12. But the t35 universal comes with all the adapters. It may be too big though.

The Oregon one got sent me must have been 150mmW x100mmD, it was huge, maybe bigger, it just surprised me, the size.

I know the Oregon brand, I use their chain saw chains occasionally, they are ok.

Thanks for the heads up on the T35 Universal, I have today been trying to source a SpeedFeed 400 with adaptors, the closest two Echo suppliers have none and don't expect any soon.

The physical size of trimmer heads usually goes by the cc of the engine. So if your engine is 52cc you look for a head that's suitable for up to 52cc.

And don't be tempted to fill it with heavier line. My head will take 3mm line but the trimmer isn't fit to spin it fast enough when filled with 3mm and it doesn't cut very well. But fill it with 2.4 line and the engine can rev out fully & it shaves the grass no bother.

When you say, jams the spool, what do you mean?
With the Stihl strimmers we were using their line, some were good, the yellow one, but others (red coloured) would constantly overheat and melt together and was a pain to sort out.

The dealer apparently told them to soak the line in water overnight, being nylon it will absorb a fair amount, and may stop it melting together.
