New paint work different shade and Holograms

Just had my car back after they repainted my bonnet, as it had water under the paint forming bubbles, so they did a full respray back to metal.


In normal daylight it looked OK, but at certain angles it looks to have a blue tint, but I’m sure it’s the clear coat that is the issue? There are also holograms all over it. The colour is basalt black, I will take it back as soon as the rain stops this week.
just after a second opinion, I know the flakes can never be resprayed in the same patten. they said they put 5 coats of lacquer on.
The lacquer also looks cloudy and lights up blue, is this a thing?

Metallics are very difficult to get a match on especially if a entire panel has been done like that - sometimes they will respray and blend into the wings to try and hide it, but blending is also difficult.

The holograms looks like artefacts from the buffing - needs re-polishing properly to remove them.

have to question their ability to make it right if its sent out like that

should have sprayed out a test card and stopped there when it didnt match , then find a closer match and try for edge to edge , or blend it into the other panels , which will destroy even more of its originality

5 seems a lot to me, normally 3 would be good, he said that had to build it up, I’m just concerned they were rushing, and the coats hadn’t fully cured? They finished ahead of time and said they had to work late.

yeah 3 would allow for a good polish , makes me cringe when i see these show car paint job owners claiming its got 20 coats or whatever , yeah then you get 10mm deep stonechips

would of expected to blend into wings both sides then clearcoat both bonnet and wings or if small repair use blending thinners and 2 or 3 coats puttinging on more doesnt make it a better job

not fully cured might half explain the terrible polishing job , but thats not going to fix the colour match

it very dificult to photograph, but the blue tint looks to be on the surface, unless its the flakes reflecting the light back through the laquer.

yeah i cant really think of why the clear would be blue tinted , id imagine its the fact its slightly the wrong shade giving that effect off , regardless its not right and you want it redone ?

id be suggesting i dont want umpteen coats of paint on it and to strip it again , but i guess it will get a wipe with a scotchpad and redone

The blue might be the rubbish polishing reflecting badly. It needs doing properly then see what it's like

I've never put more than 3 coats of clear on and that's plenty to flat and polish.

Blending some metallics is near impossible and at least very hard.

i can tell you now it wont change the colour match , yeah sure the hologram mess can be polished away

The problem is they may not be capable of rectifying the polishing issues, if they knew how to do it properly, it wouldn't have been given back to you like this! You may need to take it to a known good specialist for a proper rectification.

They have added base to the clearcoat to try to give the finish "depth" . I wasn't going to say anything but that is a bloody awful "match".

That would explain why I think the clear coat has colour.

If that's what has been done then no amount of polishing is going to make it acceptable.
I'm a rank amateur and reckon I could do better.

is adding base to the clear a thing? all the years i painted it wasnt something that was done

looks like a £150 trade job done in the arches , regardless what they did, take it back and explain its not accpetable for what you paid and you want it right , its been know to leave buffer trails in a weak attempt to take the eye off a bad colour match

or ideally refund and have someone else do it , otherwise you fear the same guy bodging the wings and bumper trying to blend it , then fast forward 12 months its all peeling off around the edges because its a rush job
